advice on front wing plastic seals please ??

Post by malmac »

Hi,

Just about to begin putting things back together on my mk1 scirocco , got a pair of those black plastic seals that sit in between top of front wings and bulk head, my question is, are they any good or are they just a water trap, should i just leave them out?

Cheers
Mal.

May be a little late to reply but I left mine out, they seem to go very brittle with age. In the end I went for sealant in black which was masked when the car was painted rather than nothing at all, looks pretty close to original finish. Can upload a pic if it helps.

Hi Phil, all replies most welcome, better late then never. Thanks for the advice, black sealant sounds good, my wings are on now but can't see that being a problem.
Have you got a pic of the area in question?

ps have you still got that scirocco on the pic on your signature as it looks very similar to mine, any more pics of it most welcome.

thanks
Mal.

Nice pics, your car looks great, little better than mine to be honest. Didn't realise yours was that colour, thought it was red on that signature pic hence me saying it was similar to mine. I much prefer these mk1's to be kept original, not only do they look better but they're probably worth more too. Good luck with the screen !!

ps that sealer looks fine, flexible too, was it just exterior black sealant you got?

mine's a 1982 Gti, was advised by previous owner that it was an import as kph clocks and FF tilt/removable sunroof fitted. Not sure what country though.
My car should be on the road in a months time (fingers crossed) so i'll put some finished pics on then, if i can !
