Wonky front bumper and almost cutting out

Post by Ginger_Dave »

Hey up, I bought me a scirocco a few weeks back. The guy i got her off said he'd tried to realign the bumper but its the metal behind thats bent. I wondered if there's anyway to sort it or would it be easier to look for a new bumper?

Also, when i come to stop at a junction/lights or whatever. When i press the clutch down the revs drop till it almost cuts out then they pick back up to normal. I thought she might be running lean, would that cause this to happen?

Thanks Dave.

The bumper will be easier to replace as a whole item; they aren't really designed to be taken apart, although it is possible it's not an easy job.

This may help you to decide to repair or replace.

The cutting out probably just requires a service / clean out or a few new cheap parts
Good luck.

That's really handy as bumper refurb next on list of jobs as want to remove texture prior to paint and the above will make things easier.

Thanks for the reply's. I think I'll just replace the bumper it'll save alot of messing. Had a look about but only can find rear bumpers, guess I'll have to bide my time and keep checking the parts for sale section. till one comes up. If anyone knows where's there's one going it would be good :). As the almost stalling, i serviced her and its not as bad now. I thought it could be the idle control valve, might give it a clean out and see.

If you want an unpainted bumper, they are available new from VW Classic Parts. Not horrendously expensive, either.
