Sunroof tinkering

Post by joshiggins »

I've been tinkering with the sunroof lately too.. tired of being rained on everytime I go around a roundabout!

These instructions were useful http://www.vintagewatercooleds.com/tech ... -technote/ ... I managed to take it out, clean it up, grease and reinstall without any major issues. As a little note for anyone following them, when it says remove the handle you have to remove the handle and the little gear bit too!

Using some long bits of welding wire I cleared the blockages from the gutters so it shouldn't fill up with water anymore. The sunroof lining was very dirty so I pulled this off too...

Going to get some material to recover this.

Electric Windows

Post by joshiggins »

The electric windows didn't work.

The white plastic wheels had snapped on the old ones causing the wire to derail when it rotated. Got some new mechanisms from :ebay:

There was intermittent power going to the windows too but I didn't know where the relay or fuse was for them, this page was very helpful http://www.bentleypublishers.com/tech/v ... .panel.htm. The relay was dust when I opened it! Some water has got in at some point. New relay and now I can go to McDonalds drive through!

In the shop

Post by joshiggins »

There has been no progress really on the Storm for the past few months, except for picking up the nickname 'brown stain'........

Here is me pulling my finger out.

List of problems
  • Bonnet is white
  • Scuttle panel is bent
  • Carpets are ruined
  • Brown trim up inside of windscreen a-pillar is ripped and mouldy
  • Seat bolsters are ripped
  • Sunroof is still broken
  • Only half of the dashboard present
  • Front bumper needs painting
Starting work...

Image

The scuttle panel needs sorting, its very bent and needs repainting, so the screen had to come out. It cracked right at the end!

No surprises hiding under the wing...

Image

Welded this up and began the long process of stripping the scuttle panel...

Image

Being sprayed...

Image

The bonnet was prepped and sprayed at the same time as the scuttle, also ran up the a pillar and down the wings too.

Before the new windscreen went in my girlfriend made some bits to replace the inside pillar trim. Enough material left to make a nice pair of brown pants.

I made these myself... I work at a school and we have laser cutting machines in the D&T department. PM me if you require some.

Carpets ahoy

Post by joshiggins »

Back home but in need of a clean.

The bonnet matches well and is really straight so I'm happy.

I got a carpet set from Newton Commercial... the underneath stuff is great and fits fine but the rear carpet moulding is off slightly so some adjustments were required.
