Not sure if the MK2 Golf Gti has the connectors at each eand of the clocks, been years since I had one to tinker with.

Also not sure if you can change the MFA section for just a clock?

What about this....worth contacting the breakers

Yes mk2 golf clocks are the same, but pretty sure that the MFA/clock is linked by a circuit board to the rev counter. You will probably be able to swap the LCD over though.

Yes you can just plug them in and everything will work as normal.

I appreciate you have damaged the ribbon on your original clocks but you can still swap out parts from the clocks on to another set of clocks in order to keep your mileage, swap the rev counter and for example I changed the lcd clock over on mine..

gplategt is selling clocks in the for sale section, if you're really stuck i have clocks without the lcd that could be swapped about to make a good set. Other VW's have various matching clocks that can be swapped about. I personally would want to keep things standard without the MFA on a gt unless it was working properly.

I apologise if I am misinterpreting things as I see you have posted before.

thanks for that i have kept all the original clocks and have removed the mph one to keep the mileage 108,000
i am following 2 sets on fleabay without mfa really they are the set i want one has only 52,000 showing would be great to half the mileage the car has covered but im not like that just prefer to be honest does go to show though how easy it is to clock a car of this vintage i am now looking forward to driving the car its nearly ready for the mot just a bit worried about fuel hope its not worse than the vectra 2ltr petrol its replacing

Not that easy to 'clock' cars with new instruments as the new MOT print-outs have mileage figures for the last 3 years.

You can also check a car's recorded mileage for each MOT going back to when it was all made electronic, all you need is the V5C reference and to head to the DVLA website. This was how I found out my Golf had done 200,000 miles rather than the 130,000 the clocks indicated. Lucky those 8v lumps go on forever

I'm glad to see that components can be swapped out of these clocks to and from other clusters - my LCD clock is cracked, so I will be keeping my eyes peeled for any dashes going cheap. Thinking about it, there's 2 mk2 Golfs at my local breakers, so will have to go investigate those at some point!
