Problem on starting up/ mfa query

Post by Radorocco »

Hi,

DX injection engine (I presume) on GTX.

Starts up fine but will not keep revs up until it's had a good warm up, 5 mins or so, after which it generally runs fine, although has sounded a little bit "chuggy" -almost as if its running on 3 cylinders sonetimes. Apart from these, it drives lovely :) Any suggestions as to where to start?

One further point which may (or may not) be related - the mfa shows that I never get more than 16.1 mpg which is clearly wrong. Is this likely to be a leaky vacuum hose or summat?

Any suggestions gratefuly received, thanks

Cheers
Jeff

I would be looking at the vacuum hoses first as it is the cheapest option! They all need to be in tip yop condition.

Lumpy warm up could be the Warm Up Regulator, which isn't cheap but look at the dizzy cap, is it damp?

It may need a good tune up by someone that knows old skool K-Jet. Where are you based?

Ian,

Thanks

I'll have a look at the vacuum hoses/ dizzy at the w/e . I'll whip the plugs out too although it ran quite smoothly for a 250 m round trip at the w/e!

I'm in Harrow, NW London

Could it not be the AAV? (Auxiliary air valve)
Take it off and clean inside with carb cleaner?

Jeff, I know a good old-skool mechanic in Chelmsford, set my K-Jet Scala up after I had changed a few parts and thought it still run crap, top bloke and not expensive. Worth the trip around the M25 and up the A12!

Thanks Ian.

Subject to the weather being less than arctic this weekend, I'll have a look at the suggestions so far and see what transpires as I really must make myself have a go first.

........and if all else fails then I'll get in touch to pop over to Chelmsford.

Cheers
Jeff
