Re: 1979 Scirocco GLS
Me too. Painted the rear beam, front wishbones and the rear mounts on the chassis.
I thinned it as per the instructions and it went on really well. You get a reasonable pot life too with plenty of time to work but it going off pretty quickly after.
Much easier to use the Hammerite by brush and whilst I sprayed a few things with Hammerite in a can it's very thin and not very durable.
Not that cheap, but the "Muts Nuts" IMHO. Guy from Rustbuster was also very helpful before I ordered gear.

Is that light at the end of the tunnel or a train coming the other way?

Re: 1979 Scirocco GLS
I liked the epoxy and its good to hear some opinions from fellow Scirocco owners on the product. I found it very easy to paint on. I am still going to do a light layer of stone chip over the top I think.

I am building this wheel so I can use it mock parts up and I am also dying to see what the 155/55 look like! I have spent a couple of hours this evening giving the Gotti bolts and washers a polish in the trusty drill. 320/600/800/Autosol They need a bit more work but will do for mock up photos.

Bolts trail fitted (dish need some work too!)

Im not sure about the centre colour? I had planned on polishing them but did his for the mean time!

I am just waiting for my stubby motorbike valves coming in the post. I am very tempted to try mounting the tyres myself with hair spray.

Is it safe to stretch tyres that far and drive on them?

Plenty of other people run silly stretch with no problems. I will not be driving the car anywhere near its limits on the splits tbh. I will have a other set of wheels for that.

This sounds crazy but the stretch is to make the car more functional. I would like to have a bit more meat on the tyres but then my arches would rub. I am not trying to be controversial I am just building the car for my personal tastes.

That after all, is what it's all about!!Winston wrote:This sounds crazy but the stretch is to make the car more functional. I would like to have a bit more meat on the tyres but then my arches would rub. I am not trying to be controversial I am just building the car for my personal tastes.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but it's your car old bean, and IMO it's looks awesome!!
Ps the wheels centres would have suited the platinum metallic perfectly!! Oh the irony......

Re: 1979 Scirocco GLS 1272cc
Cheers guys
I am still getting it in the neck from everyone I tell I am changing the colour. The Mk1 in the latest skyrocket is very inspiring and has backed up my choice nicely.
I did not made much progress last weekend due to a killer hangover!
I did get over to see Calvert last Saturday afternoon and collect a donor Mk2 sub frame. An extra bonus was it ended up being a Mk3 subframe so I can stick to the original plan with the mounts. cheers dude!!

I have also tracked down a Mk3 Golf ABD engine mount bracket. Talk about hard to find...... Genuine rare!!

Bit of a boring update but progress is progress. My mates dad is up doing some welding tomorrow so I can crack on with painting the underside.
