3 point rear seat belts mk1 rocco?

Post by Rich_Rocco »

I'm pretty sure i've seen this answered before but cant seem to find it.

im wanting to fit 3 point inertia reel seat belts in my 79 storm

ive seen people say "have a feel of the C pillar and you'll feel the threaded hole"
but i cant feel one as my c pillars are sort of padded
really dont want to start cutting holes in my nice c pillar material so does anyone have a picture/diagram of where this threaded hole is?

thanks in advance

Ive been looking at this on mine this weekend... to my surprise, mine are there too!
Bonus

Also, if you look under the side supports for the parcel shelf the ribs that run across it are broken exactly where the belt would pass through, and there are holes above the shock turrets for the seat belt reels. One big one for the mounting bolt and a small one above it for the locating dowel.

Lower mounts are also present in the floor which doesnt surprise me as the lap belt reels were an option.

Does anyone know of a suitable belt to use? as the angle the reel sits at looks quite high. Not sure if Mk1 Golf or Jetta belts would work as im sure the angle of operation would be steeper.
Mk2 Scirocco belts are a completely different mounting position I seem to recall?

We have seatbelts supplied to our spec for a different application at work so I can probably get something if need be but an off the shelf belt would be cheaper.

Nothing listed in Etka as far as I can see for the Mk1 which surprises me especially as VW thought about it enough to put the mounts there.

thanks so much for this people :) really helpful
if you could still get a pic winston that would be amazing. just to make double sure before i start cutting anything

tee3 I have a set of belts from an early mk1 golf so i'll give them a try and let you know how they do. my guess would be that mk1 golf and jetta belts would be the same as the ones used in the scirocco since a lot of other parts are interchangable. it would also be pretty strange for vw to create a whole new belt for a car of the same year as other models (though stranger things have happened and i could well be wrong)

its my day off today (friday) so i'll check and post my findings here :)

Another option would be to Mk1 Cabriolet rear belts but lets not give up just yet!

haha no worries :)

the only problem with cabriolet rear belts is the belt receivers
theyre the kind on the flexible stalks and only come in sets of 2. so youd either have to clip one off or have 2 belt receivers sticking out from your rear seats.

ive also tried the cabriolet belts with my earlier receivers and the buckles dont latch in :(

if it turns out that i cant install the 3 point ones i may attempt the tricky process of swapping the 3 point belt and putting it into the lap belt reel if that makes sense?

im really hoping i dont have to though

Theyre definately there on both sides.
Large hole is for the reel to mount, smaller one is a locating dowel.

Also, in the underside of the shelf support above you can see the breaks in the ribs where you would cut a slot for the belt to pass through.

Golf/Jetta belts may work but belt reels are designed to work at quite a narrow range of angles... if the belt reel isnt mounted at the angle it was originally mounted at it would throw the weights out and could cause it to lockup when it shouldnt... which is a right pain in the arse!

cheers for the pics winston :D I very much appreciate it.
i managed to get hold of some of the correct inertia reel lap belts from a storm that was breaking so im holding off on the 3 points.
also tee3, your cars rear interior (the parts in your pics) looks totally different to mine so the belt mounts arent there.
mine look like winstons pics.
so that leaves the question

where are you mounting your seatbelt reels winston? for future reference

I thought about the mounting points uploading the pictures and reading the thread. :hehe:

Mine had an aftermarket seat belt fitted to passenger side. I can't remember how it was fitted. I will have a look for mounting points tonight.
