gt2 steering

hi my 1988 gt2 pulls quite bad to the right when driving I have fitted new pads and discs and the calipers are working fine with no binding brakes the only thing I can see is the front wheels seem to lean in at the top could it be the springs that are worn how should I check it many thanks

try new bottom armz, track rod ends and tracking.

how much are bottom arms and how easy are they to fit

Don't forget the obvious, tyre pressures! See if you can get the car to a laser tracker, they are spot on.

Get the camber and tracking checked first, before spending money on changing parts.

i have a set forsale which have been polly bushed and come with a straight pollybushed roll bar and a bottom strut brace to hold it all together and all good condition

i how ever would do the parts first then the tracking . ps most lazer alinment places dont have a clue about the camber bolts so id take it to an old school boy and with the new parts you know its all perfect. clcm in edinburgh is amazing always busy with mk2 escorts etc. what ever way you do it a new set of arms will realy improve your ride.

It may not need any parts, if the camber and tracking are set up correctly. At the very least, a check, which costs pennies and is free in a lot of places, will tell you how far out you are. And any laser alignment garage will be able to sort the camber - it is not rocket science. It will show quite clearly on the computer print out whether camber and toe are within tolerances.

the people who operate the lazer machines at tire places dont even know what that camber bolt is they wil ajust and get it 2 their thought of right, thing is with the rocco when a monkey dose that you tear through cv z. worst case is the driveshaft comes out the box. happend to me through farmers auto care. bunch of tire fitterz dont have a clue

thanks for the replies i will try the tracking first as the bottom arm bushes do look ok the car is not on the road at the moment but will need sorting before use still got other stuff to sort out i had a non working fuel gauge removed the clocks got my mate to check it and the gauge is duff removed it from the clocks and decided to put them back in the binnacle well i somehow managed to rip the connector ribbon right out the back of the clocks ohh sh!t ahh well

just an update i have jacked the car up and checked for any play the only bit i can find is the front strut moves up and down slightly at the top mount plus when lowered to the ground at first the wheels are nice and straight but when you bounce the shock a few times the wheels seem to move in at the top like the suspension is sagging a little could it be the top mounts and how easy are they to change

Really easy mate your camber bolts may be loose try them. if their old when u get them set cake lock tight on them they can be a nightmare. Are you on lowering springs or coilovers? Also cheek the bottom ball joint it should be stiff. When my cambers were tipping in at the top it was due tho the track rods not the ends when their put on theirs a specific measurement for them in mm. Again a monkey from farmers done mine and was pulling my shaft from the box. The original track rod ends only have one side to adjust as one side is fixed. Also also cheak your arms are straight and not bent they are weak and made to twist in a light bump instead of your chassis
