Hi Guys,
I am currently running a mk2 Scirocco with a 16v KR engine from a Golf GTI. I bought the car with the engine already fitted and found that the previous owner had completely bodged it including a very badly bodges down pipe to make it fit. I have since had a custom down pipe made and am it appears my gear linkage is catching near the top of the down pipe and is almost warn half way through the lingage.
I have been told that if i buy a short shift linkage like the on below I should miss the down pipe, getting of the horrible rattle and giving me a better shift. Have any of you had this type of problem before? I'm guessing something similar had to be done on the original 16v Rocco?

Any help would be great, if not im just going to buy the linkage and see what happens.
Cheers

Re: 16v Short Shift Gear Linkage?
i had the same type of a problem a long time ago, not in a vw but i took it to a friend of mine, we took of the exhaust heated with a blow torch and basically hammered a dent into the exhaust, didnt have any problem after that.
most exhaust fitters and garages would be able to do it for ya

If you still have the original Scirocco gear shift linkage, that kit on ebay will NOT fit, as it is for Mk 2 Golfs, not the A1 platform cars.

Re: 16v Short Shift Gear Linkage?
I was thinking about doing that with the exhaust BUT it's catching the top part where it looks like springs? so dont think I can do a lot there.
As for the linkage, thats a very good question, the engine was fitted before I bought it, I will look into that before I buy anything. The item on ebay does say Golf, Scirocco, Jetta etc but good shout.
I will keep you updated on how I get on.
