Removing bumper cover

Post by Ginger »

My mk2 gt2 had a little accident. The bumper iron is bent but the colour coded cover looks ok. I want to remove the cover from the iron and fit it to a mk1 golf bumper iron that I have hanging around in the back garden.

Just wondered if anyone has ever removed and refitted a bumber cover? If yes, is it easy?

Secondly, does anyone know if the mk1 golf bumper iron is the same as a mk2 scirroco bumper iron?

finding bits for mk2 scirocco is porving to be a bit of a challange.

The bumper iron will be different. You should be able to find a 2nd hand bumper for a mk2 quite easily. They are also available new from VW - not cheap though.

Removing the bumper covers is challenging, there are a lot of plastic clips that need to be pushed through the iron after the covers (over the clips) have been removed. It's possible, but will require some sturdy bullnose pliers and a lot of swearing.

I tried removing it once.... lots of swearing.... broken clips.... put it back on and it's still bent to this day!
