well this is the first post i've read on this forum. :)
and what a nice act from a true petrolhead :) this is good to see someone that cares enough about their car to give it away to save it :)
this used to happen a fair bit in the mini world 4 - 5 years ago but as the price of minis even rusty shells has gone up so much now it doesn't happen anymore

Yes, I gave away a perfectly solid 2CV about 10 years ago - even pretty rusty projects are around £500, with some examples going for £10k or more. I should have stuck with 2CVs and hoarded half a dozen decent ones...

I had to give away my Alfa 33 Veloce Cloverleaf about ten years ago, the council were hassling me about it (needed work for MOT to get the road tax) and I didn't want to risk it going to the crusher, best car I ever had, no offence intended - that's when I got my Mk2 GTL, had it ever since.

i was given a mk2 golf as my first car by someone up the road from my mums as he didnt want it anymore. needed a clutch and a timing belt.
it was the best car i ever had
i even managed to sell it for 300 quid with 290,000,iles on the clock.
