oil seal in gearbox

Post by celyth »

hey all, my g/f's rocco has been slipping so i decided to fit a new clutch, when i took it off the clutch was soaked in oil and loads of oil in the bell housing, i presume this is because of the oil seal in the gear box, i have a spare box which did go into gear better but the seal ghas gone on that too,

where sells the seals? i havent been able to find any on the net.

cheers

cel

There are two seals in the bell housing end of the gearbox and GSF sell them both - one is the Pushrod Oil seal and the other is the Input Shaft Oil seal.

The Pushrod Oil seal that VW sells, comes with a small cap which when pressed in flush, leaves the seal in the correct place 0.8 to 1.3 mm in. The GSF oil seal does not come with this little cap and you can push the seal in too far.

You will need to push the pushrod back into the gearbox to fit the seal properly. If you can drop the release lever down far enough to allow this, fine, - you may need to lever off the plastic stop, otherwise you will need to remove the green end plate to get at the release bearing and you will then need to fit a new end plate afterwards.

When the gearbox is off, it is worth checking the crankshaft oil seal on the engine as that is another source of oil into the bell housing. GSF also do this seal.
