US spec bumpers

Post by Tee3 »

Can anyone confirm that the US Mk1s came with the "5mph" impact front bumpers?

Im guessing they must have, as i discovered today when I unwrapped the brand new unfitted front bumper skin I bought at Tatton over 10 years ago is about 50mm longer on the sides than the original :dunno:

I guess there is probably a market stateside, cos its no bloomin use to me now. :(

US spec mk1s certainly had uglier, bigger bumpers, just the way they seemed to like them over there.

Im sure it was a legal thing... something to do with preventing damage to the lights and stuff in low speed impacts...

Its not ugly as such, just sticks out 50mm more or so. I guess there was an infill that went between the bumper and body to fill the gap. Chance of getting those are slim, so i'll see if i can punt it to an American :)
