rear brake question

Post by traindriver69 »

Hi all
Took my scirocco for its mot yesterday and it failed on the off side rear brake using the pedal and handbrake the guy said there was brake fluid leaking so i got a new brake cylinder and shoes.
Got up early this morning to do it and it was a nightmare got the drum off ok and the old shoes, but the heads on the allen key bolts holding the cylinder on were shot and the brake line nut was not much better.
I then thought i would remove the hub off the axel to give me better access but the bolts did not want to move so after a lot of heating up with a blow torch i got the bolts off the hub then moller gripped the brake line then i had to drill off the heads from the brake cylinder and got it off.
well that only took about four hours!!!!!.
Then it took me another hour to try and work out how the shoes went back on which i think i did right which leads me to my question I tried the hand brake with the drum removed and only one shoe seems to move against the drum is this correct, when i put the wheel back on i could not move it with the hand brake on but just making sure the only problem i have now is that when i use the foot brake it stops the wheel turning if i spin it but if i twist it by hand with the foot brake on i can move it but might be air in the system??.
Any help please got to get it down for its retest tomorrow as mot runs out sunday.
many thanks in advance
