Hi gentlemen/ladies,

FINALLY (sorry Tony) i can up-load the storey and pics, on my VW 1600 CL scirocco stored for 24 years, It all began when i heard a tale/myth that near where i lived was a car locked in a garage since 1986, as usual this was told over a few pints :scratch:, so did not take much notice. well last january i had a call from a chap who required a garage door repaired, at the back of where i live, i met him the next day, low and behold it was the mythical garage, inside was a very dusty car, as you can see in the pictures supplied (camera date not set up, so take no notice of the dates on the photo's, also i will try to get them in sequence, but am not very good with tecnology) it was a scirocco CL, i asked the chap what he was doing with it, seems he bought the car had a slight bump and has never drove again since, and was conducting an experiment on how long it would tke to rot :shocking: , He was and still is a bit excentric, as you can see the garage was as dry a bone, it was going to take a long time. i asked if he would sell it, he said no, people had been after it for years and he was not going to change his mind, well i fixed the door to his odd request, (a tale for later) that night i told my other half about the scirocco, with dreamy look in her eyes, she said that her sister had had a scirocco and she loved it, well she was a certain special age in april, so i deceided that it was my mission to obtain a scirocco for her **th birthday, it would have been on reflection easier to buy a running restored model, but i had to have the forbidden one, well before the end of the month i had wore the excentric down, (i think the camping at the door persueded him) and took pocession of the said vehicle, now the hard work began.

He had parked it with the handbrake on, but had removed the battery, but not a lot of room to work in his garage, (see pic's) well finally got it out of there and had a good look at it, as you can see in the pics once i had the dust off, it was in great condition, NO rust, NO mildew, NO smell, it really was in excellent condition, and the milage just over 30.000, QUICKLY i will out line some of the work i did; cleaned the dust off, cleaed the engine up, hand cranked the engine (it was running when he parked it up) cleaned the 2E2 carb etc, THEN !!!!!!!! the time came to start it, wel it turned over a couple of times, aaaaaaaand fired, for about 20 seconds then NOTHING, checked everything out again NO SPARK, after a diagnostic nightmare i searched ansd searched the web, that was when i came across Sciroccoregister, on your fotum i found the answer, the electronic module under the wiper motor protection, well i obtained one at a heavy price from VW/audi,( i have learnt my lesson to trawl the search engines 1st ) but i required it quickly, once again turned the engine and uo she started, a bit laboured but i knew i had a lot of work do still, the project contiued, front and back brakes were next along with new disc's and calipers, handbrake cable bearings etc were replaced, plugs condenser etc, and a pre MOT, i said i would skim the details, but am sure you all know the score on the work invlved, though i must say it was and is a pleasure to work on, most parts being readily available, and good access to most area's, the pre MOT threw up a couple of minor infractions, but nothing drastic, still got al the paperwork, well all the work completed it flew through the MOT, i still had a big problem, it was running rough, and cutting out, YOU ALL know what coming next, it is thanks to you all that i could acquire the answers to problems, with out all your knowledge it would still be an ongoing project.

A change to the entire fuel system was required, Webber carb, fuel tank, filler neck etc, also the slight damege to the near side front of the bonnet was spoiling the car, (i mentioned earlier he had had a small bump) i ended up with a doner vehicle "Thanks Peter" i had to give the job of the the fuel tank to a garage as i did not have the room nor ramp, and i was running out of time, i also obtained a stainless steel filler neck, the tank was flushed and some kind of coating applied to the interior before fitting, i also had them do the carb change while they had it, i missed presenting it for the wifes birthday by a week.

Am at present trying to do some magic with the remaining pics, to try and make a full folder i can download, so can show more of this car, hopefully will have something by the end of th day

That is *quite* dusty. 50p says she hates the brakes and the steering, and you end up selling it, or driving it yourself ;)

Hello again guys/girls and dub-heads,

Sorry its been so long since Part 1, but things in my world have changed quite dramatically since last September when i wrote part 1, i have officially become a member of the amputees fraternity, not really a bad thing, still here to annoy people and such, anyway i am not the star of this piece the Scirocco is.

Well people the scirocco was presented to my wife at the end of part 1, she was absolutely over the moon, i could not get her out of the car for weeks, in fact for a few months, then a problem occurred (sorry MikeH, it was not the brakes or the steering) my wife is old enough to remember assisted steering and faded breaks, but her body being a wee bit older now, began to protest, she began to complain of a bad back, so serious in fact that she ended up at the hospital, where after some investigations it turned out that she has a worn disc in her lower back, for a few weeks she drove the Mondeo and her back improved "some what", so the physio therapist banned her from continued use of the Scirocco, as the old stye seating was causing her back to worsen over time, needless to say she was heartbroken but continues to drive the car on occasions.

Well i myself took to driving the car, and within a week or two had a couple of problems, one day i was going around a roundabout locally and the Scirocco just cut out right in the middle of the roundabout, well i waited a couple of minutes, and tried the starter, up she fired , just a quick question, have modern drivers forgotten what hazards lights or for, you would think so with the kindly gestures i received, even though the hazards were on, anyway i know what a lot of you or thinking the problem is, and your right it was the fuel system, but if you cast your mind back to part 1, i had replaced the tank and uprated the fuel system, anyway the car did it again the next day, so i returned to the garage where they had done the work, as soon as the owner saw me, he went into the garage and returned with a Stainless steel filler neck, i had supplied the garage with a fuel tank, Weber carb (taken from a donor car i bought) and a stainless steel filler neck i purchased (second hand) it turned out he said that the mechanic did not fit the filler neck as there was no key for the locking cap on it, he said the mechanic had flushed the tank as requested and fitted the Weber and cleaned the fuel lines, ( i think he got the replacement tank back in before he realized that he was meant to fit the filler neck) the main reason i replaced the tank etc was because the filler neck is corroding, i could have had the original tank re-fitted but it was full on contaminates, so opted to redo all the main components of the fuel system, any way after some argument i got part of the monies back, so i spent some time at the weekend removing the fuel censer, and removing rust particles from the tank with a magnetic rod, have not had the filler neck fitted yet, just keep the tank filled above a quarter and its fine.

NEXT; i had also bought the donor car for its bonnet, the original had slight damage to it (see part 1) i took it to a reputable repair shop to have it resprayed, though it was the same color black, it did not come up to the same standards, as the rest of the car, but have noticed that over the winter it has started to lift a bit where the bonnet creases are, the only things that have stayed right on the Scirocco are the parts i have accomplished myself, as you will see in the photo*s that is quite a bit, i have attached 3 pic to this, showing the car as is, i forgot to mention that some dirt bag attempted to break in to the rocco, but was foiled by the Cat One alarm, hopefully this address will take you to the full file of photo*s for the Scirocco, have tried this link from another computer, and it worked, hopefully you will see all photo*s of the car.

there are 44 pictures available there to view,

before i sign off, i am not advertising this car anywhere else, if and when we come to part with it, it will hopefully go to one of you guys, also the Scircco will be available with the donor car, spare fuel tank, s/s filler neck, original 2 series carb, body skirt (removed) the donor car is minus bonnet, doors, most of engine, (though the block remains, Pete who sold it to me reckoned it was a runner before he cannibalized it) anyway have a look at her and let me know your veiws.

Sorry to hear about the health issues bud, hope its not sommet too severe. and hope the missus can enjoy the car when her back heals. i always found the standard seats a little un comfy - you can fit corrado seats straight into these which are nice and supportive and may help you out.

but wow, thats exactly the scirocco i want! non sunroof, non bodykit in black. lovely! very nice find.

The main problem with the seats is usually that they're over 20 years old. You often find that the passenger seat is substantially more comfortable than the driver's. A refurb with new foam and wires would make them comfortable again.

Just try to get your hands on a passenger seat from the rest of Europe.(LHD) :hehe: :hehe:
