'92 J Mk2 GT II - New Project

Post by M66MMM »

Greetings All,

After seeing my first Scirocco Mk2 at the tender age of 17 and falling deeply in love with the lines and styling, I managed to aquire a couple of Scala's in the late '90's. The first was written off following a full 360 lateral spin on black ice near Dunstable Downs early one Feb morning and the 2nd was p/x when we down sized from two to one car.

Have alway wished to own another, an oppertunity arrived while scanning eBay just before Christmas when I spotted a low mileage GT II for sale.

Deal was done and I've picked up this little beauty:

Having got her home, the following has been sorted:

Full service:
- Oil & filter
- Fuel filter (old one was full of rubbish!) ** Checked filler neck which is solid **
- Fuel additive to absorb any moisture in the tank
- Air filter (Again, old unit was pretty old and full of rubbish)
- Plugs
- Dist. cap & rotar (Well worn and long past due)
- CAM belt & tensioner

Breaks:
- Fluid flush (As not changed since 2006 according to the service manual)
- Replaced rear drums, shoes, cylinders & bearings (Not sure how the MOT was passed as the cylinders had failed open and were binding the shoes to the drums)

Also:
- New battery as old one was failing to hold a charge
- Heater blower and switch

So far, £1050 spent just to get her running right...

Next job is to sort the electric window regulators as the windows don't appear to sit in the runners properly ... will update when I do manage to sort some parts...

Looks lovely - I remember thinking it should be a good one when I saw it for sale.

Looks good and such low mileage, its not even been run in yet

One thing I did notice from your photo of the engine is seems you have a black cap on the expansion tank, It might be best to change it to a blue one as I think it has a different pressure release or something along those lines.
There is discussions on here about black verses blue expansion tank caps.
