Underseal
While changing the petrol tank I decided I might as well underseal the rear arches and floorpan. I've got some hammerite stuff but was just wondering if anyone else had experience of any other products?

Re: Underseal
I bought the Hammerite stuff from halfrauds also but Lenny125 did recommend some other stuff.. he'll be able to tell you what it is though as Ive forgotten!
Re: Underseal
The hammerite underseal seems ok but as it stays a bit tacky to displace moisture - it seems to be attracting small stones and the like.

Re: Underseal
I truly hate underseal. In my experience it probably does more harm than good as when it dries out it holds in moisture and creates rot. Also once it is on it is an absolute ballache to remove. I have spent many hours with a paint gun and a chisel trying to remove it.
It is good at protecting your metal, but you need to keep an eye on it. I am much more of the belief that you are better off painting it with a coat of bilt hammer Hydrate 80 or such and a good coat of Hammerite or similar.
Bilt hammer stuff is a+. Can be sprayed or painted on.

Re: Underseal
After priming the bare metal (assuming you're going that far) with decent anti-rust primers, use U-Pol gravitex spattered from a spray gun. It dries quickly and is overpaintable and never cracks - it's the same as they use on cars at the factory.
Re: Underseal
Thanks for the replies.
I started off just needing to change the tank but then noticed one of the rear springs was broken so replaced all of them. Then when I had the tank off I thought I might as well underseal behind it. Then when I took the plastic arch trim off that hides the fuel pipes I ended up cleaning all the muck out of there and decided it looked like a potential place for rust to form. It seemd a shame painting over the nice clean arches once I'd cleaned all the mud and dust off but it'll probably be better in the long-run. To be honest I was one step away from taking the bodykit off but I want to get the car back on the road, not keep it in the garage indefinitely. I can see how people get carried away though and end up rebuilding their cars

Re: Underseal
The most common phrase i use on my Imp is that i am 'nearly there'. Have welded nearly all the bodywork now, and was going to spray it, however i am now not happy with the floor and want to replace half of it before i put the engine back in even though its not an MOT fail. I just want to do it properly. I am sure there will be something else after that.stu.gtx wrote: I can see how people get carried away though and end up rebuilding their cars
As soon as it is finished the Rocco is taking pride of place in the garage instead and will get a once over, but i am hoping not to get so carried away. To be fair i am hoping not to have to do too much, but then again, you never are.

Re: Underseal
I think it must have been a bit of OCD kicking in cos once I do something it just has to be done right
