Hi. I had a clutch fitted on my 1992 scirocco gt2 last april and now the clutch has started slipping again after only 9000 miles. the garage that fitted it said the problem is due to the clutch arm not dropping low enough and this is probably because it is bent.
I just wondered what your thoughts are on this and could the clutch have not of been fitted properly in the first place.

Re: clutch problems
Oil seal leaking? This was the problem on my car. Any oil around the gearbox?
Hope no one has filled the gearbox with oil from the green plug ontop of the gearbox, this is a timing cover to the fly wheel not the oil filler.
Have you adjusted the clutch cable? there should be 10-15mm lose play at the top of the pedal.

Re: clutch problems
Thanks for the quick reply.
There is no sign of oil leaks anywhere or oil on the housing. The clutch cable has plenty of slack but its just the arm thats not dropping far enough. the clutch is only slipping when pulling uphills.

Re: clutch problems
Unlikley the arm is bent as it worked ok before it originaly started slipping ?.
It the cable is adjusted correctly then it is likly its a clutch fault, ie, contaminated friction surfaces (oil) from the crank seal is the most common but generaly after the engine has done over 160k miles....
Check the cable at the gear box end for wear and freedom to move, also squirt wd40 down the cable to lube it properly
the symptom you describe is either an incorrectly adjusted clutch or worn clutch plate.
Do you trust the gararge ?....

If it is not broken, Do not fix it !!!
