Yeah I thought it seemed like a dodgy idea, just interested to know whether it actually works. Apparently it gives the petrol a higher octane rating, and won't do any damage if there's no ethanol/methanol in it.

you wouldn't do this really unless you were running boost anyway... i however wouldnt..

i used to add anything runny that burned to the fuel tank to get rid of it when i had my mk2 astra. it's amazing how much 3 or 4 litres of sump oil in a full tank of petrol would make it smoke then for years i ran various cars (petrols and diesels) on fuel removed from misfuelled vehicles
