I have had an unusual problem today.. Trying to unscrew the big flange nut which secures the upper timing cover to the block.. trying to change cambelt. 6mm allen head nut backs out ; just turns and is withdrawing the 6mm diam stud into the block, female nut not coming off and cover wont come off ...

I put the car on to some home made ramps made of bits of ply and blocks to increase the height to about 150mm (x 900 long). You dont need big steel ramps for most jobs under the engine. Then you can crawl under and easly get to the C clamps. The VW shop I use say that the wire exhaust gasket is ...
