Re: New Beetle 'cross-flow' head conversion... Anyone done one?

Thanks for the response guys, some very useful info there! I'd thought about using the whole 2L engine from the golf / beetle, but there's no easy way of using a dizzy (just to keep things simple). Although, if I use ITB's, a full standalone system would use the engine's standard sensors etc anyway ...

New Beetle 'cross-flow' head conversion... Anyone done one?

Ok... So I've just got stuck into my Mk1 resto project and I'm needing to finalise my choice of engine. The options were; 1.8 or 2L with cross-flow head running bike carbs or ITB's Using my spare 9a/KR hybrid with carbs or ITB's 1.8 non-turbo 20v with the same... The 20v looks to be way too much ...

Re: BBS RM012 on a MK2 ?

I had a set of BBS RS033's on my GT2... They were 8x15 all round with 185/45x15 Nankangs, and the coilies wound all the way down (3/4" travel left on the front struts!! lol). http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/snathe/Rocco/16042010123.jpg http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/snathe/Rocco ...

Re: Advice on removing bodykit - chemicals used for removing sealant etc?

as above, toffee wheels will get most of it off without marking the paint but be careful not to burn it as they work on friction. The cheaper wheels do burn through paint, this is true... But the good quality ones like the one pictured will be fine. I get through a couple of these a month, and only ...

Re: Advice on removing bodykit - chemicals used for removing sealant etc?

What you require sir is an eraser wheel (available from any good motor factors that stock bodyshop consumables). They're also known as toffee wheels / caramel wheels... They're used with a normal drill, and swiftly remove double sided tape / pinstripes / sign writing / etc without marking the paint ...

Re: Removing a sunroof (returning to metal roof)

I need to rid my Mk1 of a similar pop up glass jobbie before i paint it... Not wise to weld (gas or mig), as the insane amount of heat will distort the roof! I plan on cutting a section of roof skin from another car, with 5-10mm overlap... Swaging the edge so the filler panel sits flush with the ...

Re: Anybody else got these on their mk1 scirocco?

Could these not be used for lifting the height of the boot floor / carpet when using a wider spare wheel / tyre?? Say a 14" with a 185/60?? Only a stab in the dark, lol

Pmsl @ Sean!!

I think if it was given a bit of rake, and the sides extended to meet the arches, it'd look cool!
Get the resin and the glass mat out!! Lol

Re: LP9Y Paint

Being in the trade, and running a bodyshop, i would recommend having it done properly. If you try (and fail) yourself with a rattle can, it could cost alot more to put right professionally than just going straight to a bodyshop in the first place. It's pretty much impossible to get an acceptable ...

Re: door flare

What you need for removing the leftover glue and bits of trim tape is an eraser wheel. They are a toffee coloured rubber wheel that you put in your drill. They remove all traces of trim tape, glue, decals, vinyl, etc without damaging the paint. Using spirits is very risky, as if the car has been ...
