Hi Joost,
I was trying to remove the steering column and the tubing to replace bearings/bushes. I have the shear bolts on the firewall as per the diagram link from PeteGLI. so I’m wondering now if I can leave the tubing in-situ and knock ...

Re: Steering column and tubing removal
Thanks for the diagram. Yes the nuts going into the firewall are original so thanks for pointing out they are shear bolts and not some type of rivets as I thought. I’ll seek advice on those. Thank you again

Re: Steering column and tubing removal
Update…..
Looking more closely the 3 bolts that attach the pedal frame/bracket (that’s part of the column tubing) onto the car frame are actually two (looks to me like) black rivets attaching to the firewall and one nut attaching to the upper frame where there is a threaded stub sticking out from ...

Steering column and tubing removal
Hello,
Sorry this is a bit long and windy I’m a novice so sorry .
I tried to remove the steering column and it’s tube housing today but failed. I was expecting the column to have a ‘leaf spring’ and 2 upper mountings each with two bolts and to remove the steering wheel etc then with the u-Joint ...

Re: Steering UJ shaft
Thanks for the reply’s
It’s a shame this part is hard to find and so ridiculously expensive.
I’m wondering if I can get an engineer to replicate it or bastardise it maybe by removing the UJ’s from each end and simply replacing those to knock something up that works. But I haven’t had it in my ...

Steering UJ shaft
Hi all,
Advice needed please :-)
I need to get a new universal joint connecting shaft. The thingy that connects the steering column to steering rack with UJ’s at each end. Sorry I don’t know it’s proper name. Apparently it’s VW part number 531419951B and if anyone could confirm that’s the right ...

Wrong engine oil ?
Hello,
I just did a oil and filter change. I used 10w/40 Castrol gtx ultraclean and apparently this is a fully synthetic oil. Have I made a mistake and should I replace it with some classic 20w/50 ?
The cars high mileage 137k and running great but I’ve heard she shouldn’t be fed with synthetic oil ...

Re: temp gauge testing
Some info about those two different (but similar) temperature sender sensors mentioned in a post here.
I just had to replace mine to fix my temp gauge and of course I ended up with the wrong part causing plenty of confusion.
Wrong sensor : The sensor with the blue cap 025-906-041/A has a ...
