Hi,
I can't really comment on the others as I haven't used any of them, but I have a Kent GS2H cam and it gives a noticeable improvement above about 4k. It hasn't been set up properly yet so I would hope it will be even better once it's been set up on a rolling road. It is quite a lot of money for ...

Very sad to hear this. A genuine nice guy. Always had a 'bargain box' at the shows I saw him at.

Re: cost G60 vs 2.016v conversion
As above. Always better to buy the whole car anyway, then you know if the engine is ok and you have all the bits.
I've had a go of a MK2 Golf with an ABF and that would be my engine of choice for a retro looking transplant. They go really well too. Completely different to the 1.8 16v KR.

Re: make my car faster!
I have a similar spec engine (not yet fitted) to what you have and a similar daily driver. I'm expecting the Scirocco to be nippy but accept it'll never be a match for the torquey turbo diesel. It should be a different driving experience though and feel a lot faster than it is, due to the 'seat of ...

Looks like a good one.
Being a CAT D will no doubt be putting people off as many don't understand how easy it is to 'write' off' an older car.
Maybe you should keep it

Re: The thread about the £19k Mk1 GTI
It looks like he's followed the valuation sheet KGF1 uses on cars for sale on RetroRides. Wildly optomistic in my opinion but good luck to him. I would be intereted to know what the car actually sells for though.

Re: Car cover
I've had a few generic covers. None have been completely waterproof and they've all blown off the car in strong winds. The only real use the cheap ones have is protecting from dust when stored in a garage.

Re: Mk2 respray
I would make sure you go and visit the painter, speak to them and look at their work before deciding. Ideally if you know someone that's had work done there before, have a look at their car and how it looks after a few months or so. If you pay £500 for a lash-over, you normally get what you pay for ...

Like many on here I'd known Ian for quite a while now and don't have a bad word to say about him. He will be missed not just at the bigger gatherings but especially the smaller North-East mini-meets, usually organised by Ian himself. A friendly face, larger than life personality and always willing ...

That guide will come in useful at some point.
I found this relating to the part I need.

Re: sunroof handle spring
It's not a coiled spring, it's some sort of small pressed piece of metal I think. I would guess they break through fatigue caused by age.

sunroof handle spring
Does anyone know if you can get a replacement spring or equivalent for the sunroof handle on a Mk2? I've had 2 of these break now and although the 2 remaining parts of the sunroof handle have part numbers, the spring just seems to disappear when it breaks. Seems a waste to get yet another sunroof ...

Re: refurb alloys
City powdercoating is very cheap.
http://www.citypowdercoating.co.uk
I've never used them as they're a bit far away for me. From the reviews I've read they're anything from really good to really bad. However, if they do a bad job you just tell them to do them again
