So far, bought KR from guy on eBay, luckily he sent me video of it running so was happy with that, its now sitting in the shed with head off soaking in clean...

KR Engine Wiring
Hi All, I now have my KR engine ready to build & fit to the car, I have everything I need for the mod, but just wondered if anyone knew of or had a straight forward wiring diagram that would assist in the conversion. Just so you know, it's replacing an 8V carb, I will have the fuel pump on a sep...
Re: cambelt
Yup, agree with all the above, if not sure then get garage to do it. It's a lot easier with the proper cam tensioner tool which most decent vw old school garages will have.

Re: Very Strange Running Problem
Oh well, think I got to the root cause, looks like a soft seize on the engine caused by lean mixture. Basically running too hot and melting piston rings. When hot it was sucking oil past the rings and sooting up with lack if fuel. I can't prove anything but think garage played with it when trying to...

Re: conversion to 16v kr engine
Lol....have as of today got genuine gti 16v complete pump assembly and supply lines. 4 branch exhaust manifold and organised wiring loom. The engine has everything on it ready to go. Really isn't hard to change. Did friends golf to 16v in 2 days couple of years ago. We have access to engine hoist an...

Re: conversion to 16v kr engine
Thanks for the pointers so far, I read up on the fuel side last night and plan to fit bigger piping and might go for after market fuel pump and accumulator. Wiring, I'm not bothered about as my friend knows how to set that up easily enough and I plan to hand him a loom that suits.so far it's soundin...

Re: Temp sensors
Just a quick idea that happened to me recently, I fitted a new thermostat when I changed the head and my engine temp went up to over half, turns out the thermostat was sticking and caused it to run too hot and has now forced me to plan an early engine change. Worth while checking as mine never boile...

Re: Very Strange Running Problem
Thanks everyone, but I do have a VW expert as a friend and he has offered his help......it's a Weber carb so no temp sensors involved, it's def sucking oil and sooting up plugs, hey ho, it's all good fun and I have the sheds to work in luckily.
