Re: Vacuum lines layout

I’m having problems getting tapatalk to work on this website so I can’t add any pictures… There’s one of the hoses on the air box which I posted on the Mk1 Golf website. https://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&id=big-block-carb-engines_2%2Fair-filter-housing If you PM me your ema...

Re: Vacuum lines layout

Which hoses are you struggling with?
I guess it’s a FR engine you have if it’s a the original 1.6 engine, I think the KR is a 16v engine?

Re: Looking to buy a new distributor cap and rotor arm

The main difference between the dissy caps is how the HT leads fit, there is a pin type and din type. The pin type is mainly used on MK2s and din type on Mk1s As you had to remove the end of the spark plug you probably have the pin type leads at both ends but if you remove a HT lead from the dissy c...

Re: Looking to buy a new distributor cap and rotor arm

This may be your rotor arm? https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/bosch-ignition-rotor-arm-405330140 It’s getting hard to find a Bosch dissy cap. Black plastic cover dissy cap https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132652544586?epid=552901305&itmmeta=01HQ96N9G7H1NX33QKCNEA873P&hash=item1ee2b5324a:g:Jn0AAOSw5aV...

Re: Looking to buy a new distributor cap and rotor arm

Does your dissy cap have a black plastic cover or is it a brown/orange colour?

What’s your rotor arm like?

Can you post up a picture?

Re: Mk2 scirocco 1.8 8v 1990 SPLUTTER/ROUGH ON IDLE

Check the Ht leads are in the right order, 1,3,4,2 clockwise, No 1 should have a line marked on the edge of the dissy if you remove the cap.

Did you fit a new dissy cap, rotor arm and spark plugs when you changed the HT leads?

If you remove the air filter box will the car still start?

Re: Mk2 Cosmos Blue Storm on Ebay

Oh dear that’s in a terrible state and sad to see…
Looks like it’s had a strap put through the car and lifted up..

It had only done 95,000 miles !

Re: Scirroco light issues

Check and clean the bulb holders and earths.
As said also look for water getting into the car above the fuse box as it’s a common problem.

Re: New Heater Blower Fitting

When you have the wiper arms off the spindles give them a good clean with a wire brush so they are nice and clean when re fitting the wiper arms.
Also a good time to re-grease the wiper mechanism.

Re: TIE ROD REPLACEMENT

You do need a thin spanner to fit the locking nut at the steering rack end of the tie rod, that’s the only extra tool I needed to find.

Re: Possible fuel starvation issues with the GTS

That’s good news and hopefully the problem will be solved.
Webcon are very helpful as when I was trying to find spares for my Webber DMTR (slightly different carb for a 1978 Mk1) they were great.

Fingers crossed for you :-)

Re: Possible fuel starvation issues with the GTS

Great to hear it’s up and running again.
If you leave your car on a flat ish surface maybe just leave it in 1st gear and leave the handbrake off, that’s how I leave my car when it’s parked up in the garage for a few weeks.

Re: 1980 GLS with 23,000 miles at Historics

It did well at £18,500, unfortunately it needs to be in a museum as with such low mileage you would no want to use it very much.

Re: Possible fuel starvation issues with the GTS

Might be better getting a genuine VW splash guard as the one you have look different to what’s fitted to my engine. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115980535012?hash=item1b00fa84e4:g:crcAAOSwotRiWXze&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0BZPCpEbl%2FiPkT%2BA2fpJqXVA9fXkNGFKIAK9n9m7F6zkyljJr9UFhMkH3cw5SewmFrkrH5sZ6xvV...
