Hi guys and gals! As title says, clutch cable has pulled through the bulk head where its gone rusty and unfortunately I can't drive the car anywhere now. Has anyone had this happen to them? If so, how have you fixed the problem?
I've spoke to GSF and they sell a 'bulk head repair kit' listed for a Mk1 Golf that apparently will fit a Scirocco(Mk2) and just needs to be welded in place. Is this the best solution?
Thanks in advance for your replies!

Yes I had it happen on my first Rocco, it is quite common.

Simple answer is "YES" :)
Make sure you (or whoever does it) cleans all the metal around the repair before and after welding and paint it well with rust proof paint to make sure it doesn't rot away in the coming years.
Hi Ghost, thanks for reafirming that for me, so I just need to get it to a garage somehow... I've ordered a rigid tow bar which I thought would come in handy at some time!
If anyone else has more advice, i'd be grateful to know.

Many thanks
I "bodged" mine up for a week or 2 as I needed it for work. I just made like a big "repair washer" and cut a slot in it just big enough for the clutch inner cable to go through, and mate up the outer against. No weld or owt, just wedged it in place until I got the job dome properly.
The GSF ones are self adhesive so you don;t need to weld it and as the clutch pulls towards bulkhead it will keep it in place. From memory tho it needs a few bits whacked off to get it to fit. Would probably be a much better job tho. I got one for mine and was gonna do as a preventitive measure when doing clutch cable, only to find that it had already been very neatly done and welded in by the original owner, think he made the repair piece himself, very tidy job!

Thanks Jim, do you think I could do it myself even if it means the car can then be driven to a garage?
In theory you should be able to dude yeah, slacken the cable off at gearbox end (or disconnecting it would be better) and then disconnect at pedal (you need to remove the tray below dash to access pedals properly) and pull cable through bulkhead into engine bay. Get a hammer and tap the metal back to roughly where it should be and then clean it engine side to remove any oil etc so repair section will stick well. Like I say you'll probably need to cut a couple of bits out of it to make it fit as slightly wrong shape, obviously do this before trying to stick it on or painting it.
May as well have a go yourself dude, if you can't do it your gonna be going to a garage anyway??
Although best advice always if you not confident get someone who is to do it
Has anyone the part number for this part.
Ive had a few search's and a trawl through their brochure and can't find it.
My car is an 87 1.6 GT.
Thanks in advance.
A heart broken GLI - R.I.P. A loveable GT. A practical Polo now deceased.
Old Mac Rocco, GSF part no: 715VG0420 and price is £9.50 + VAT, it's listed for a MK1 Golf but does fit a Mk2 Scirocco. My local GSF manager advised me that you might have to make slight alterations with a hammer for a perfect fit.
I also found a couple more places where this part is available at a slightly higher cost:
You will need to cut a semicircle out of one edge so that the speedo cable still fits through the bulkhead, and, if your car is injection, drill a hole the other side to feed the vacuum pipe through to the mfa connection on the back of the clocks.
