Oldest mk2 in the UK?

Haven't posted on here for about 8 years but spotted this February 82 GL with only 21k on it for sale on carandclassic and thought some folks may be interested - I was!

Re: Mars red GTi spotted on Preloved

Yes, I find that website really difficult to use as it's hard (impossible?) to see how old an ad is, so you've no idea whether it's worth inquiring about a car. That latest red GTI looks like a rot box, despite what the seller says. I think my old GTI, may it rust in peace, wasn't far off as bad as...

Mars red GTi spotted on Preloved

Stumbled across this. The ad is 85 days old, but this car wasn't mentioned on here (or was it?) and might be an interesting project for someone if it hasn't sold yet? April 1982, scruffy but complete, not silly money Here it is (link is to the advert itself referred to on Preloved as it contains mor...

Re: Why is nobody buying this?

Mk1s are selling for greater sums than this...it will cost a lot more to restore properly the Mk1 Storm project up at £2800 this week than the extra cost of buying a £7/12/14k example. Exactly. Hence my surprise that it's still for sale. I think someone would be very happy with this car. Although I...

exactly - so the other one seems good value by comparison

PS this is not my car, in case anyone thinks I'm hawking for a sale :)

Re: Why is nobody buying this?

Are you sure that's what the market is demanding these days? Well, not really, no :-D I just see a few mk1s popping up priced well over the £10k mark, but I suppose they aren't necessarily selling either. But this particular car is (was, four years ago) in really very good condition, obviously some...

Why is nobody buying this?

This mk1 GLS has been for sale on carandclassic for at least a year if not more. It is immaculate in the flesh (I saw it on the street in London in 2013) and, although not cheap, is not overpriced either. It seems a decent, standard, mk1 for roughly what the market's demanding these days. Any guesse...

Re: 1985 scirocco GTX barn find restoration

As for rear arch repair panels, get in touch with a guy called Chris Salaj. I think he's in Belgium. He makes his own reproduction rear arch repair panels specifically for the mk2 Scirocco, which will fit in behind your bodykit nicely. I'll PM you his email address. Now I'm not sure if he has any av...

It was - nicked and never heard from again. A real shame as it was such a rare model, but it was as rotten as a pear

aye, that would have been the dream but good old FWD will do for me. it's only a weekend car anyway. nowhere near as fast as the Corrado but more fun, which is what I was after.

Not a Scirocco but still in the family

So I sold my last Scirocco in 2014 and still miss it (got stolen from the new owner the day after he collected it - poor guy) and then had a Corrado VR6 for two years. Lovely car but it didn't quite do it for me - maybe too sophisticated, if that makes any sense, not raw enough. So that went too - a...

Re: Contender for the Oldest/Most Original Mk1 in the UK?

I have a friend that's a delivery driver for Yodel. He was always mentioning a guy up that direction with a lovely mint Red MK 1 and got chatting to him quite a lot, as he was part of his route. He told the owner of the MK1 that he had a good friend with a Scirocco that would love to get a drive in...

Re: Contender for the Oldest/Most Original Mk1 in the UK?

No idea why this car popped into my head seven years later, but did a DVLA check today and it's been untaxed and with no MOT for a couple of years. Hope it's not been handed over to some Hyundai dealer as part of the scrappage scheme. That would be a traversty. Also thought that in the sad event the...
