Is it possible to run your engine with a bearing cap missing ???????
I removed my cylinder head cover to paint it and fit a new seal.
When refitting I noticed that no bolts showed through the "oil catcher" at No 4 position counting from the timing belt side.
There is no evidence of of one being fitted in this position before and no holes to take the bolts ??????????
There is no signs of damage near this position.
All the pics in the manual appear to show 5 in total but I only have 4 in total ???????????
I am going back to the lockup to take a few pics and post them up and that may help.
Meantime any help would be appreciated as this is holding me back from refitting everything else.

Not to insult your intelligence, remember that the caps are numbered tho and they have to go back in a certain order dude :good:

Hi Risocco,
Not to insult your intelligence
Don't worry about that, at my age I get used to it, and probably deserve it.
Many thanks for the reply, I knew that it would be a simple answer, the type I like, and after your response and a call from MacColl I feel a lot happier.
I could not remember when I removed it what the set up was but the engine was ticking over nicely after it's inital warm up tantrums so I thought it must be OK.
I'll pop a couple of pics up anyway and you will be able to see why I was corcerned at the time.

I had the exact same scary moment once! Can be forgiven for it considering the haynes manual pictures.
The last 3 engines I saw both were the same as yours, so I don't think any of them had ALL the caps. Maybe only really early ones.

Best of luck with the job in hand.
