does anyone know if a 1.6 starter motor is the same on a manual and auto?

phoned up GSF today and asked about prices of a new one for my 1.6, and they have said they only stock 1 for a 1.6 and it fits both, so i am a bit confussed as i have read they are different on manuals and autos.

have you tried comparing part numbers on vagcat or similar?

I have just checked Wagenstad for you, there is 11 different part numbers for starter motors so maybe they are different for automatic cars.
Best advice would be to contact your local dealer and ask them to check then get the part number from them and use that at GSF.

I was under the impression they were different.

There's often a deal to be had on them on evilbay... Think my factory recon one was £25.
