Scirocco Register

Where is the best place to mount an amp in a mk2? ive got 2 to go in and just wondered what the experts before me had done.
I am going for the as discrete as possible look as well.

i made a new side panel for the boot out of 1/2" ply, covered it in black vinyl and mounted amps there. just take the cardboard one off and use it as a template

Really depends what your'e connecting them up to. Following nates plan is always good as you can recess them into the gap and they don't take boot space. Could attach them to the rear of the rear seats.

Depends on the size of the amp, there are some that will fit into the gap behind the centre console. Just hook up a couple of small fans to blow across it (CPU fans are good).

It's what I've been looking into and can't see any drawbacks to it other than access if a fuse blows, but it means I don't lose any sapce.

Well one will definately have to be around the boot area and I'm not to keen to screw it to the back seats (not sure if velcro will work). The other one will have to be closer to the front of the car to run both comps off it and the 6x4s in the back. i was thinking under a front seat, but then again I haven't checked for space and I doubt ventilation would be good.

Don't know about space under the seat in a rocco, but I had no problem in I mini many years ago. Plenty of fresh air around it even if the space above is small. No drilling either, just pop tiny holes in the carpet and clamp it with bolts. Just make sure the seat can slide without probs.

I had one fitted there in my mini, seemed like a great idea until a friend stood on it. The front seats in a mini were hinged at the front so the whole seat would tilt. This isn't a problem in a scirocco.

What's the rear amp for? If it's for powering a sub could you not mount it on the sub box itself?

the rear one will probably go on the sub box. its mainly where to mount the front one.

As mentioned before then, if it's small enough then there's room on the transmission hump behind the lower center console. A small slit in the carpet is all it needs to hide all the wiring (in fact IIRC there is already a small slit there).

I had a small 2ch amp mounted on the fixed under-dash shelf in the passenger side. Made the shelf useless, but seemed a good place as it only ran the front speakers. It'd need to be a pretty subtle looking amp if you wanted it so stay there for long though!

You could always run the fronts direct from the headunit??
My amp was mounted to the underside of the parcel shelf between the 6x9s.

I knew it'd be for the fronts - just wondered why the need to mount the amp in the front
I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference in sound between using a 1 metre cable or a 3/4 metre length of cable. For the hassle of trying to find the right amp to fit behind the centre console, it'd be miles easier to mount it in the boot
