Hi all,

One of the few roccos I have is back on the road with a new heart inside (ABF). I got the car 3 years ago I think, 2 owners from new, both in the same family. It is currently sitting on coilovers with 15' TSW allloys. Low and hard, quite fast too ;)

looks good mate :) could you give me more details about what you used for the swap?
im looking to similar with an ABF in a scala :)
also is there room to move the rad further over to the o/s?
(reason is i need to fit something else in front of the engine :P)

thanks :)
I have used abf of the golf mk3. Wiring loom striped and only what was needed from the golf one was installed. For manifold I have used 16v Supersprint manifold that I got of MikeH although the down pipe is hitting the gear linkage a bit (would need to get the downpipe and the rest of the exhust made up in stainless steel but it is OK for now). I have used original gearbox that was installed in the car previously. Oh and I can now connect vag com to the engine to diagnose any faults. There was one, engine was randomly stalling. Turned out to be speed sensor and its wiring.

I guess you are going to go the bike carbs route? :) That was my initial plan but I have abandoned it and got the full mk3 engine setup. I was actually looking at the radiator some time ago with Mark (mtaylor55) as we were talking about fitting an abf in another rocco. I do not think there is more space to the side to move the radiator along. I guess it would have to be installed deeper or another wide radiator used but best would be to look online for the photos of mk1 with ABFs and bike carbs, should be plenty of them.

It is late 84 - to be exact: 19th of December 1984 . Yeah I guess I know what you mean, for me it is always like that when it gets to getting rid of cars :)

Thanks guys!

cheers for the more info mate and i was actually looking at going F/I :P
so a S5 (i think) manifold chopped n welded to a big TB,
i think ill be going similar with the engines original loom,
but then later on when i do decide to go supercharged (after collecting everything over time)
ill go down emerald or megasquirt piggyback on the MK3 loom,
im not to good with my 16valvers yet :P
would a 50mm KR inlet manifold from germany fit? (do you know what mm you manifold is at the moment? )

Good to see that Supersprint manifold going to good use, after sitting in my shed for ages. Nice work!

@ Lewp - that's a 42mm manifold from a golf. A 50mm one will fit, but there's very little in it, power-wise, and the gaskets are getting hard to find.

fair enough, one of my mates always goes on about 50mms...

how is it wired up?
ce2 fuse box from the mk3 or engine loom spliced into the ce1 fusebox?
im really trying to get my head around how i would wire up a loom to a kjet 8v!

Rocco back on the road again. Changed exhaust and tidied it up a bit. Had to change number plates as these were faded... and realised the old font was different! Slightly bigger to the new style plates. Will need to look and get the 'old style' ones.

Hi there, I'm looking at options for a 16v swap and really fancy the idea of an ABF but I've been told that many suffer clearance problems with the height. Just wondering if you had any and if so how you overcame them?

Car looks great btw!

Hey all! Just thought I would say hello. The car is still alive, yet was sitting in the garden for the last few years. I can bet it will start first...or second turn of the key :)
