Scirocco Register

hi folks
im new too the scirrocco world but iv had lots of vw over the years and allways have a soft spot for anything vw

anyway i was just wondering how many old a-reg rocco's are still out there?????????
as everytime i search for thse cars it brings up scala,storms etc but never and 1.6 gl beasts!!!!

i was on a night out with the lads and happened too pass a scirocco that was for sale,well i ended up buying it,think the beer helped!haha

its a 1.6gl,the old boy has owned it from new,it has full vw service history in the book then been looked after by a local garage,220k on th clock and it runs better than my t4!!
the interior is like new and everything works,even the washer headlight jets!!
someone has changed the carb tho to a webber 32/34 dtml and it burbles along nicely

what kinda performance will this old girl be kicking out?
im not going to modify it or start thrashing it about as it doesnt seem right but just outa curiosity thats all

any help would be appriciated

My first MK2 Scirocco was a 1.6GL.
These have the faithful old engine that was carried forward from the MK1 GLS and it left the factory with 85 BHP.
They have the 4+E gearbox and are really enconomical with low 40's mpg easily attainable.

haha yeah the ole 4+e iv seen on the gear lever,is e for economy then?
the little needle at the top was saying 45mpg on the motorway on the way home the othernight,2600rpm at 70mph if i remember right

iv never really gotten into them but its ace,its drives so straight and so easy that i might keep it

i only bought it coz its got 1month mot and tax on it and didnt want it to go the the scrappys!! was ament to be mot'ing it today but the wrong clutch cable was sent to the local motorfactors as it snapped last night n had to tow it to my mates house!

cant take it home incase my dad finds out!!

Clutch cable snapped, welcome to the world of older cars! You will find that most parts are still available from the likes of the dealer (believe it or not!), GSF and ECP and there is always plenty of people on here with bits and pieces for sale.
It is worth becoming a paid up member as we get a discount from GSF.

If yours is an 83, theres 15 left. If it an 84 theres 12.

Sounds like my mates Dad, claims old cars are a waste of money, but he's happy to lose half the value of his car when he trades it in for a brand new one every 2 years!
Just play up the Economy side of things, he can't fail to be impressed!

GT Matt and myself both have '84 1.8 GL's, and live round the corner from eachother in the same small village lol

People have mostly ignored Sciroccos for a long time, instead opting to buy the more "popular" Golfs 1 and 2's. Then, all of a sudden we learn that the Scirocco is becoming a bloody rare breed. I'm glad i kept mine.
I've got a 92 scala...44 of those left. Think i might buy a few and break em..lol

Hi, iI have been an aircooled buff for a while now, but i just could not resist the 84 GL i seen on e/bay It is in showroom condition and totaly original having spent the last 16 years stored in a heated whare/house, its silver and has the factory BBS wheels and BBS bodykit, with only 63,000 on the clock. strange thing is it has the single wiper blade yet has the get you home tyre + the larger petrol tank, Nice to know that there are only 12 of this model registered, all i need to do now is find a spare 13" BBS RA Alloy so i can get rid of the micky mouse spare, Over the years I have never realy looked at the scirocco before but i am now a convert, What a superb car, cheers everybody Tom
