engine swap

i have a1984 mk2 storm and the oil light is on and uses oil,i fear the bottom end has gone,i have a 1988 scirocco 18 gt carb engine which is in good condition,will i be able to use this block in my storm and use the storms head and injection system without any problems,ie,is the block the same or is there ant diffrences.any help and advise will be appreciated.regards johnsm
