White gunk on oil filler cap??

Right, for a while now every time I check my oil there's a white thick goo over the top of the oil filler cap.
At first I thought it was the head gasket but after carrying out a compression test, everything fine.
Its had about 4 oil changes since I've had it so its not as if the oil is old or something.
And I recently fitted a new oil cooler to it so I don't think any water could be getting into the oil

I spoke to a mechanical friend of mine and he said if I'm doing a lot of short journeys (which I do) then its just condensation building up...
Is this true? Or is there something else I need to look for??
Cheers :beers:

true

same happen with motorbike with those would start it and run it for 10 mintues once a week/fortnight during the winter to "preserve it" ...its much better to leave it well alone!

but in your case, either go for a bigger drive every so often, or stick a heater in the sum :hehe:

yup, very common. if you're super paranoid, you could get one of these to double check http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0648899970

you put it in the top of the expansion bottle and the liquid changes colour in the presence of exhaust gas
