FECKO graces the pages of Scirocco Register once again under new ownership
Behaved very well on the 275 mile home before flashing oil lights at me as I pulled up
into the driveway so i was very lucky by the looks!
Anyway few little niggles here and there which will need to be sorted and it has the potential to be a real stunner!
I've got a bit of work to do before it can officially become my daily:
* Oil Burning = Head Re-build and hope it goes away...
* Cold start isn't happy = toying with the idea of removing it at the moment.
* Fuel pump wont stop screaming = probably going to need a new one...
* One of the wheels is buckled, however they are not to my taste anyway so will get her some 'fresh sneaks'.
* Having forgotten the awesome braking power of the standard equipment on a rocco' I will definitely have to do Mk2 Golf GTI brake conversion.
* Exhaust is blowing a little somewhere, which i figure the only way to fix for sure is a 4-2-1 and jetex system.
* Gear linkage is a little sloppy. Another thing that i feel is only curable with an aftermarket alternative, such as a short shift kit with linkage bushings.
Here she is in her resting place for the next month or 2 while i get down to business.

Check that the lift pump is working, my main pump was making some very unhappy noises when it had to take the strain after my lift pump failed.

Incidentally I just put my freshly tarted up badges back on the car!
Before:
After:
Cant go wrong with a bit of satin black spray! Dont know how long the red is going to last as its acrylic, worth a shot.

Hi Tom congrats it's a lovely car.

someone on here said that this is commonly down to blocked condensation plate
so worth checking before you do too much
T0M wrote:* Cold start isn't happy = toying with the idea of removing it at the moment.
mine was doing this until i took it off the road for 5months and ignored it
must ave shocked it into action? it was really cold when i put it back on the road so it may have been that
it always started with a little pedal action anyway.

that's all part of the thrill waiting to see if it's actually gonna stop, it always does though.

I think its down to personal preference on the thilling/worring brake setup
where might I find the condensation plate? Ive not heard of it before.

Probably calling it the wrong name, i'm not one of the tech chaps.
there's a wire grill on the inside of the rocker cover that clogs sometimes

try above thread, i've still not got around to doing it yet

Thanks Mate, will be sure to check it out. the head's coming to pieces anyway but that will be added to the checklist.
Quick update, Expected in the post in the next few days:
Head rebuild kit
High Temp paint
Cambelt kit
Radiator
Lift Pump
Jetex full system 2''
RaceLand 4-2-1 stainless manifold
Short Shift kit + fresh linkage bushings

So all in all i am nearly broke within 4 days of owning a scirocco again.... someone could have warned me

Four days? You're obviously a man of some considerable means.
Seriously, I'm sure she'll be worth every penny ... have fun!

Glad you like it Tom, the gear linkage was sloppy when i parted with it, i was meant to do it last month for my mate, but he decided he was going to part with it anyway.
Its always been hit and miss on cold starts, i tried everything, AAV, 5th injector, WUR, to no avail. I think the injectors could be at fault as it sometimes splutters when hot starting too.
Enjoy !!!

yup audi 80. yeah i know, i nearly pooed myself when they said they only wanted a tenner...
back to business. attacked the engine today, and to be honest i think i may be a little out of my depth as ive only played with carb lumps before. the amount of vacuum pipes is obscene... god knows how im going to get them all back in the right place
anyway, fruits of labour so far:
Shiny inlet manifold.
Not so shiny rocker cover, took me ages to strip it back this far. BRING BACK NITROMORSE!

Thank the Lord for powder coating don't you mean?
The majority of my engine components have been both shot blast (the block, rocker cover, head, etc) and either powder coated or VHT painted. FaaaaaR easier than messing about with oily rags ;)
