Expansion bottle/ coolant bottle

I have a 1993 k rocco. I bought a new coolant bottle on ebay and although completely identical in shape and size the wings on the back are too narrow by 1 cm and obviously this means the bottle doesnt fit.
The guy i bought if off sells hundreds of them and is positive it fits a rocco, as well as mk1 golf etc. Is there an explanation as to why it wouldnt - i suppose what i am asking is did they change the design at some point. or due to the age of the car could it in fact be one from a my 3 golf or a corrado?
obviously all i really need to do is send it back but then i have potentially the same problem in future buying another
thanks

I bought one from GSF and found I had to bend the "wings" of the metal bracket in a bit to make it fit. As long as you're careful and don't fatigue the metal too much it should bend quite easily, and hold your coolant bottle comfortably

They are no longer available from the dealer - I tried! Euro Car Parts do them, this is where I got the one for the Storm and the Scala, both fitted spot on.

Did you measure the width of the locating ridges on the back, Vs your old one? If you've chucked the old one out, let me know the measurement and I'll compare it against a couple of spares for you.
Cheers

I had the same problem with my Mk1 golf, I did the same as "walkinginperu" and bent the metal brackets abit, just enough to hold the bottle in place. Been fine for the last couple of months.

cheers for the advice.
The bottle is still on the car, nothing wrong with it just a little yellow in colour and i wanted it to look new as going for an ultra clean look. Gonna try Euro car parts instead. cheers for the advice
