Anyone know which valve guides I need for a 1.6 hydraulic tappet carb head (1988)?
GSF stock 36.5mm and 42.5mm.
Also, anyone had experience of the quality of the guides from GSF, or should i be looking elsewhere for these?
Cheers!

Its complicated to remove and refit guides, requires liquid nitrogen i am told...in all my years of engine rebuilding and servicing iv never come across the need to replace these....if its stated to burn oil then its probably the stem seals rather than the guides themselves.

Just checked them - according to haynes there is 1mm maximum movement front to back, and mine are moving more than that. I have access to liquid Nitrogen and an oven at work so heating head/ cooling valves and pressing the guides in is no problem. Just need to know which ones I need!

I have 2 inlet and 2 exhaust guides (dirrerent sizes) that i bought for 1.6 head for a fr engine.they are from vw and brass..they may be of some use for referece and if you have access to that level of kit, maybe you could cast your own then you'd know they are of a good quailty.

Thanks for the offer buddy, don't know if the FR and EW engines have the same guides? I reckon I'll buy one of each from GSF and see if they're similar to the ones in the head. Failing that I'll press the others out and measure them, I just thought I'd tap into the knowledge of the chaps on here and see if anyone knew. Thanks for the help
We haven't got casting facilities anymore unfortunately, the chap who ran the foundry passed away and he wasn't replaced. sad times.
