Scirocco Register

Ok, my blower motor is screwed. It makes a howling screech initially from cold then, as it warms up it quietens a little but, if i go over a bump it goes all mental and starts vibrating like a jack hammer.
So, i really could do with getting it changed. Question is, how big of a job is it??
Has anyone done it as i cant see a guide when i've searched.
If i decide to do it, i'll take pics and attempt to make a guide of some description.

maybe you should keep that nice golf and part with the scirocco lol....

the haynes manual is the best source of know how........iv replaced and removed a few, the principal is straight forwards enough but you will have to remove the dash board,centre consoles but other than that its a walk in the park lol.....shouldnt take more than 3 hours...good luck.....if you need a haynes, i will willingly swop mine for your golf.

It is possible to remove and refit the blower motor through the scuttle tray area under the bonnet... JUST.

You have to remove the wiper motor/linkage, and it's so tight 1) removing from/fitting to the heater unit, and 2) Getting out/into the scuttle area that I ended up cracking the blower housing a bit, but it beats stripping half the interior!

BTW my blower had been only 'a little squeaky' for a quite while, then just effectively seized one evening.

thanks for the advice chaps. its still squeaking and rattling. i'll get round to doing it once weather cheers up a bit. got a load of other bits to fit too.

Phil how did you manage this,i removed the wipers and got the motor out its cradle but can't get the bugger out of the chamber

But it is very tight and you never think it is going to go in.
Lots of cursing and blood on the knuckles but it WILL go.

i'd like to get the old one out 1st

Right got the old one out, it involved snips, big pliers and broken plastic

will attempt to get the other one in tomorrow if i'm sober enough before it gets dark.

can anyone that's done remember anything that might help e.g. come at it from drivers side, passenger side or straight on??

motor side up or fan side up??

Out and in via drivers side, can't remember what orientation 'cos I think I tried everywhichway, including some that stretched space-time and broke several physical laws... and also craked the plastic duct, but not enough in impair it's general function.

And I bleeding from several places by the time it was in. Good luck.

Got it in with the help of my mate.

Came in from drivers side (thanks guys) involved lifting and levering the bodywork round about.

Went in quite easy with 2 of us especially after one of the locating lugs snapped off.

seems fine though.

Actually it's taken me a lot longer than that it's been an ongoing problem since i got the car 5 or 6 years ago

my mate Jamie did most of the forcing and didn't skin a single knuckle
