Scirocco Register

OK, I suppose this should be in the running gear area but i decided to post here to get more chance of a reply . Can anyone advise me as to the type of clutch assy that I would need for my 1987 (1.8 Carb) Scala. Having just taken a look at ebay I have come away pretty confused, some of the sellers descriptions seem a little vague to say the least.
I would appreciate any advice as the car is booked in to the local garage for next Friday and they are quoting £120 for the 3 part clutch + fitting.

Hi ive just orderd a LUK clutch for my mk2 golf gti 210mm it was only £65 from our local motorfactors so i would think it would be around the same for a scirocco i will find out soon when i get round to doing my scirocco, i only opted for LUK because ive sripped down my 2.0 AGG lump and the VAG clutch was a LUK and my scirocco has its original clutch in and its still going strong at 190 000 miles so they do last well lol

I bought a clutch for my 89 Scala i last March from GSF, with my discount it was £42. This was a LUK clutch which I believe are oem. The bearing and cover was a couple of quid, a bargain methinks!

not worth getting an ebay cheapy in my opinion, it's a major job to fit so you want to know it will be right 1st time. i've never had any bother with them. we fit them to all our trucks in work too, and the big ones are regularly towing over 100 tons

hey andy, the clutch problem al depends on which gearbox you have fitted.

look underneath the gearbox, there is a flat surface which numbers and letters are on (might be dirty)
if you say to me which one you have, i can sort out the clutch for you;)

Hi Guys. Clutch now sorted, except for the little rubber parts that fit on the gearbox end of the cable (need to source some!).Car has now had new 3 part clutch,new cable,front shockers,tracking adjusted and front brake pads....£385 inc labour...not bad I thought

Down side is that since repair I have had to re attatch the speedo cable which came off and now none of my dash backlights (speed and rev counter) work!. One side was already blacked out before the work, now speedo dials are in complte darkness.....anyone changed these before...how much and where from?

the speedo lights are easy, if you have the instrument panel out. total of 3 screws, speed-cable and some have vacuum-mfa hose thingy (sorry don't know the exact word) if thats al out and you have the original steering wheel you can get the i.panel easy out but without steering wheel its better. there are 3 lights 1left and 1right. 1 middle bottom (clock) twist the black lightholder 1/4 counter clockwise and they are out. cost aprox 5pounds max. and if you are a little handy 30 mins work.

The dash bulbs can be bought from the dealer as stated about a fiver.

Thanks fella's.I got a pack of 2 dash bulbs from my local auto parts place for £2.37 (ring) and fitted them.The clock one is also out but sadly didn't notice this until after i put dah back in ! . Speedo now working OK.Problem was due to the garage tie wrapping the drive cable to the steering column and thus pulling the drive connection away from the rear of the dashboard...

I replaced fuel filter,air filter and bought a litre of fluid to top up antifreeze today...cost me a fortune....£7.43 inc VAT actually!
