hi everyone ive just finished building my freshly rebuilt 2e with 1.8 8v scirocco dx head will be running kjet and have found it its pritty easy to turbo ive soursed a g60 inlet, buying a cast turbo manifold from ebay. also have front mount inter cooler boost pipes and ordered headgasket spacer plate(to lower comprestion) but just wondering if any1 nows of anything else i will need ive lookd into management and basically theres a mk1 golf same sort ov conversion and because ov being kjet he diddnt use management and hes been going for 11months now thank you for any info u can share many thanks rob

A turbo car requires very different fuelling and ignition. The more successful Kjet based versions used remapped ignition (16v cars used piggyback ECUs) , and additional injectors. In general, turbo cars need less ignition advance than NA cars.
If you're going to the bother of the turbo installation, it really makes sense to manage it properly. You'll get more power, and you're less likely to blow your engine up.

cheers m8 i saw abit obout the igniton advance etc but yh just tring 2 get a feel for doing it first its a spare engine so if all fails i still hav my rocco lol

Well, it's your car and your money, mate, but I think if you just chuck a turbo engine together without sorting the spark and fuelling you'll just end up spending a load of time, having an engine that doesn't make as much power as it should, and doesn't work reliably.

Pie in the Sky question here...
I know turbocharged engines "can" work on a carb engine (always fancied an MG Montego before they all turned into dust) but how difficult would it be to add a turbo to an engine such as the EX. I know the fuelling would be drastically different, with the fuel curve being much steeper, but is it possible using the weber? Has anyone done so?

this is what im saying im in no rush to get the engine dun just trying to find the info needed and what parts i need etc i now theres a ignition vac advance retard u can buy as seen over on vortex. also that u can get from ebay.com a scirocco turbo wur with boost resistance wen u seach google theres a lot ov people done such easy convertions on kjet but dont actually go in to detail enought to catch what car the parts are from etc. ive found 3 now that done have any management ideally i will be running management but wanna see how gd they are with out

the easiest way to increase power is to fit a nos kit.i have this on my 16v golf.just flick a switch and its transformed from 167 bhp to 227 bhp.i havent come across anything yet (waiting for an evo,scooby,supercar ) that i dont leave standing on the lights.your scirocco is much lighter than my golf.

yes its a good option.it adds almost as much power as a 1.6 gt scirocco engine has.

I *think* SAAB 900 Turbos were k-jet or at least a variant of it. Could be worth looking at the metering head and associated gubbins for one of them

i left a 3 litre omega looking stationary as i pulled out from behind him at 60,overtook him and when he caught me at the next junction he looked totaly bemused lol.i ofcourse never drive faster than 70 on the public roads.
Do you use the NOS a lot? How long have you been running it? any side effects?

Old Lotus Esprit's used Weber Carbs and were turbo'd. I think the carb is slightly different, not sure what that difference is to a standard weber. Or a Reault 5 GTT also uses a Carb/Turbo setup.

hi chaps,
aprox 3 years,used a lot when at the strip,best time 14.2 secs for the quater.not so much now,only if some smarmy is looking down on my golf,once you know its quick theres less to proove.suprisingly no ill effects.

Thats a decent time. I bet its quite fun to use, a quick tap on the "go button" and you've instant boost!!
I've always fancied a play with NOS, i have a bottle but no kit, so might have a look into this.
What sort of kit did you run? Wet/Dry? single or multi fogger? do you need a NOS controller?

i have a cylinder with a heater for cold weather in the boot & a controler to vary the power in the centre consol.it was fitted by wizards of noz who are very helpfull.it cost less than £1500 installed & can be transfered to my next car when i sell the golf.
the power is instant with no lag (my golf in 3rd can go from 15mph to 100mph without changing gear) and when not in use its a normal 16v golf with good mpg.this is the route i took and can recomend it.
i know why they call it laughing gas because it always puts a smile on your face !!!.
