Central Locking

Hi i have a MK2 1993 k reg Scirocco and the central locking is playing up - the car generally only gets driven once every 2 weeks, and i recently regreased the locks. is there a micro switch in the drivers door i might have buggered up. It does work but only when it feels like it - the motor sounds fine when it does operate and all the door do open so i am guessing its not a leak in the system.

any ideas guys - -thanks

this is exactly what i did, and have never had a problem since. while we are on the toppic of central locking has any one had any experience with boot poppers?
i would like to fit oneto my car but dont really know where to start. are there any kits avilable or parts i can salvage form another car?

Right - I did post elsewhere on this but can't find it so thought I would resurrect this one

There is no central locking pump in the boot so I can safely deduce I think that i don't have a vacuum central locking system

Therefore what the heck am I looking for in terms of a central motor - logic tells me its either a microswitch on the drivers door that has failed meaning all the other doors don't actuate or a main pump of some description

Help please

And it's definitely vacuum driven?

If it's electrically operated, the motor will be in the door itself. Might be worth checking there :D

And in the boot... it sits behind the washer bottle on the right hand side if it is vacuum, IIRC (although might be in the same place on the opposite side)

No it isn't a vacuum system - its just the replies I got on this led me to believe it was - I even bought a new pump - only to find out there wasn't one in the boot anyway

So if the drivers actuator fails - do all the others stop working?

However I have to say - I have looked on eBay and the actuator in the boot is identical to the vacuum system - and if it is a vacuum system THEN WHERE THE HELL IS THE MAIN PUMP IF IT ISN'T IN THE BOOT

Put me out my misery

Haynes says that the pump is below the rear washer bottle in the boot. However I'm confused, does your last post mean you have found the pump in the boot, or that one's you have found on ebay are the same as one you bought to replace the pump in your car that you can't find?

Ah - below the washer bottle - got a haynes Manuel but it does not say or show that - just a very poor diagram - will look again

I bought a new pump as I thought this was the problem and took off the left cover in the boot but the cavity was empty.
The right cover in the boot only houses the washer bottle as far as I can see. And gives access to the actuator on the petrol flap - will check this again

The blue door actuators I have seen on eBay are the same as mine also

You will have to remove the rear washer bottle to see the central locking pump in its protective foam housing.

If you can hear the air pump running when it works, it's VW. If not, it'll be an electric after market job.

well its stopped running alltogether now - so 1 Question left i think
IF its a VW vacuum system - does the whole thing work off the drivers door - as in - if the rod / actuator on the drivers door had come off or has broken will the others open or wont the system power up at all

Sorry to revive an old thread but the flipping central locking has decided to start working again. I had bought a replacement pump but i couldn't get the old one out so never got around to fitting it.

Is it possible that it stopped working because the battery was low - i say this as I have driven about 80 miles today and it probably given the battery a good charge

Cheers guys

The central locking on my 1988 Scala only works off the driver's door - I thought that was just the way it is!
