Newbieish my scirocco

Post by sciroccosi »

Hello there ive been on here for a couple of months now and i thought its about time i introduced myself and my car properly, im Simon im 34 and live in Blackburn Lancs, ive been into scirocco's for years and ive owned 6 in total inc this one, my current scirocco was bought by me aprox 8 years ago as a main dealer px for the costly sum of £550, i can honestly say the best £550 ive ever spent, over the years ive spent quite a lot of money maintaining her, money well spent i'd say, possably i have gone a bit too far sometimes on things but maybe its just me i can be fussy at times, she's a 1991 GT11 model with only 1 previous owner before me.she has now covered 187000 miles and is still on the original pierburg carb that all still works spot on(if it aint broke dont fix it lol) and starts 1st time even on cold mornings with the auto choke stiil fine, also its still on the original clutch!!! i dont know if thats a big up for german engineering or my good driving, the pics with the G60's on are of how the car looks now....i have in the last 2-3 years spent a lot on her the list will follow:

New stainlees fuel tank
New filler neck
Fully re-con and powder coated rear axel with poly bushes, all new nuts and bolts etc
New rear drums, shoes, cylinders , stub axels, wheel bearings flexi pipes etc etc
New front wishbones with all new bushes etc
Ball joints
Steering rack, tie rods, and track rod ends
Brembo discs and mintex pads
Full new JOM 40mm lowering suspension kit, top mounts etc
All new gaitors/rubber boots etc
New from VAG set of 15'' golf G60 steel wheels with Yokahama prada spec 2 tyres
Replaced interior with a red scala interior
Single wiper from mk1 scirocco
removed inner spots and used Passat GL5 grille

There is probably loads and loads more i have not mentioned, but the latest addition is an Electric Power steering conversion made by my dad of all people, this i must add is one fantastic piece of kit and the weighting can be adjusted, he could be persuaded to make more if anyone is interested, its just a straight bolt on kit with only 4 wires.
To be honest she could do with a really good polish to make it look like the pics again due to being stood all threw the summer, to sum up i have had good times and bad times over the years with my Scirocco but the good times way way outweigh the bad times, the bump on the wing was after i had road rage and hit a brand-new land rover discovery lol hope you like the pics....Simon

Hi chaps i got the fuel tank off ebay a couple of years ago some one had bought it for an earlier model and it was the wrong one so i had it off him, as for the steering its using a corsa B coulmn, my dad had one on the mk1 golf owners club stand at tatton park if antone saw it, as for price i will have to ask him but i think around the £300 mark bolt on, Rob user name go-for-it on here has driven mine and was impressed with it, any other info just ask and ill do my best but if theres anyone local to me (lancashire)they are welcome to come and try mine....

Spoke too soon the bugger has struggled to start the past few mornings seeming like a miss fire.. replaced plugs etc etc even the dizzy itsself for a new one and its still the same DOH!!! so i think we're looking at some sort of carb problem maybe the choke pull down unit because it smells really bad of fuel like its flooding itself evenytally the misfire clears and away we go lol..

Yes ... another red Scirocco! :ok:

Truly, that's a beautiful car you've got and I too like those G60s ... almost enough to tempt me away from another set of alloys.
