few things and order to work them out..
1: are you having the Engine in the front and FWD or RWD?
2: or mid engine RWD?
3: for Front engine RWD you need the engine mounting longitudely and attach some form of propshaft to where the sprocket attaches, alot of ppl then put a capri or sierra back axle/driveshafts in.

for FWD or Mid Engine RWD, your pretty much limited to a chain driven sealed differential. the diff will then link to your driveshafts. you'll basically end up space framing the rear end of the car if you choose to make it mid engined.

Can you weld to a good standard? you'll need to make engine mounts, diff mounts, custom driveshafts, a custom exhaust to name but a few things. and it will cost you atleast £1000 ontop of whatever your engine costs. my chain driven diff was over £800 with the mounting assembly that was specially made.

Even a very stripped out/lightened Mk1 is going to be a bit heavy for a bike engine/'box isn't it?

Unless you stick a couple in the back...

Thats why I was asking what engine was being put in..
Anything less than a 1000cc jobber putting out 150bhp+ and your waisting your time imo..
