Hi all, I can't remember if I've posted anything on here so I better say lol
Recently got myself an '88 scala from with slushbox and have spent the last three weeks
spoolin round in it whilst deciding what - ahem - I should do with it!
- So today I fitted the first of its new bits ..... a dipstick guide!(thx Dub Haus)
Whilst under the bonnet I noticed a hole in the top of the gearbox casing
where presumably there was once a bung or plug or something like that.

Can anyone shed any light on it cos I'm pretty sure that if I pressure wash the engine bay
it's gonna kill the autobox!

Apart from that the car is ok, a bit scabby here and there, but for £200 who cares?

Did you have any trouble fitting this?

I bought one from GSF and really struggled to get it on. When it finally went into place, it split. My original was red, and the new one was orange, if that makes any difference.

Hi, new guide clipped in no problem, mine was orange too - very bright
orange The old guide snapped off leaving the bit that goes down
the dip tube behind which was fished out using a screwdriver - did make
me giggle tho' - replace the dipstick guide to ensure correct oil level, but
launch a couple of bits of red plastic into the sump at the same time!

Any ideas on the hole in my top of gearbox casing tho' - defo gotta get engine bay
cleaned up now, that dipstick tube stands out like a sore thumb,in amongst 95000
miles worth of crap that is caked everywhere!

i know on the manual cars there is a bung in the gearbox casing that you pull out to see the tdc mark on the flywheel
if the hole is beneath the water pipe on the passenger side of the head i assume you have a simalar mark on the torque convertor in an auto
i would bung it with something to stop s**t getting in there

Thx Roccodave, I figured it wasn't meant to be open like that.
Have bunged a grommet in there for the time being, I'll take a trip
to the local breakers and see if I can find the right bit somewhere!
