Ignition coil break down??

Hey guys

I have some symptoms with my car but im not 100% sure about whats causing it.
After having a look under the bonnet i can't see any obvious signs of any fault, i've checked all connectors and plug which seem to be fine.

The issue im having is that when the car reaches a decent running temperature i can loose all power after a bit of stuttering from the car.
So if i have the throttle only partially down i can start to feel the engine 'missing' under foot, if i try and put my foot down the car with start to stutter and eventually stall.
I don't seem to have a fueling problem from the checks i've done so i'm starting to think it's the coil breaking down.
After a good going over the car yesterday i took her down a dual carridgeway and after cruising for a few minutes i booted it, sure enough after she was picking up speed and RPM i started to loose power to almost stopping.

Does this sound like something breaking down, i.e. the coil?

Thanks :good:

Your other likely candidate, apart from electrical, is fueling. The most common problem with Sciroccos is rust from either the filler neck or tank getting into the fuel lines and causing blockages at any point along the system.

The pick-up end of the pipe in the tank can get clogged as you drive along, which means you'll start off ok and then start having problems the further you go, and the harder you accelerate.

If you've got a carbed car, the easiest thing to check is the fuel filter in the engine bay - make sure you look all the way round to the bottom where a sediment of rust/crud will collect. On carb or injection you should check the filler neck to see if it's got any signs of corrosion, and have a look inside the tank (under the rear seat).

If it's electrical, I think coil or ignition amplifier could cause the kind of problem you're having, if they're faulty.

Thanks for the input Ed....ive just paid a visit to the breakers yard near me who said they'd test it before looking for a new coil.
When i got there, i described the symtoms, he didn't believe it to be the coil but did mention the fueling.
I know there is a lot of talk on here of the filler neck and tank itself being a problem, is there a thread you could link me to that explains a solution to those problems?

Thanks again for the help

Mike

what test have you done to check for fuelling problems?
