MK1 STORM RESTORATION

Hello Peeps
I have a MK1 Storm in the garage (for the last 12 years!!) VRN TKE 200X and before I die I'd like to restore it. I know they're prone to rust and mines no different, rear arches and sills, but there's nothing horrendous. Just a simple question. Where do I start. I can do electrics and mechanicals no sweat but bodywork!! Not my bag. Don't have patience, know how or eye. Is there anywhere I could get the body done? Would I have to strip it all out and send the shell off? The car is original but has a glass sunroof (is that bad??). I've got a fair few parts, original alloys, trim etc that I took off a mates Mk1 Storm that he couldn't GIVE away a few years back (yeah believe it!) before it went to the breakers.
Anyway. Any advice or help would be gratefully appreciated.
Oh. Where can I get a fuel gauge sender? Rusty mess when I took it out!!

If you've got the money, G&R Classics (http://www.gandrclassics.co.uk/) will be able to do a completely professional resto job on the bodywork. They have all the proper skills and won't cut corners.

I believe that Phirm FX also have some fans as restorers of bodywork.

Whether or not you strip out the body before you send it off to be restored simply depends on how much money you have/want to spend on it.

Sunroofs are a matter of personal taste - provided the metal around it is sound, it just depends on whether or not you want it there. If it's not going to be a track car, then you may as well leave it where it is. Otherwise you have the options of filling the hole with a metal panel, or completely replacing the roof (if you can find a spare).

You need to go back to bare metal on a car this old - I've had two restored and the MK1 is full of rust traps...and possibly bodged previous repairs. I replaced the glass sunroofs on both as I think they really spoil the appearance; it is very unusual to find a Storm without one though. I had a donor roof from another body put on the Storm, and found a Hollandia electric metal tilt/slide cassette which would (just) fit in my GLS, which looks cool, but eats headroom...

If that is a complete roof section, it doesn't seem to bad? Or am i missing something Ry?

Welcome Ken, the how where what and when of boywork will depend on your budget. There are a lot of restorers out there, but make sure you view previous work before making the deal to part with your hardearned.

It is more rewarding doing it youself, but i appreciate that bodywork is not everybodys bag.

Yikes, that is almost double what I paid last year !!! yes complete roof skin from top of windshield to hatch aperture.
