Whining

Post by Whitescala89 »

Replaced the rocker cover gasket yesterday and now the car has developed a loud whining sound which gets higher pitched the faster the car goes. Took the cambelt cover off this morning and had a good look around and cant see anything that is catching. Need the car for work tomorrow so the next time i can take it all off to have a look will be tomorrow afternoon. Any ideas?

I had a terrible whining sound in my car not long ago. After mucho investigation the source ofthe ear piercing screech d became obvious. My waf was in the passenger seAt.

Its really loud though and cant see where the belt is catching. At high revs it sounds like a police car. Cant see what the change would be when all i have done is take the cambelt cover off and put it back on.

take the cover off and start it up. if this shuts it up then you have at least confirmed the fault. it is almost certainly the belt or the caseing catching on the cover

May not be catching, could just be the belt is on too tight, or the bearing is on its way out on the tensioner mate.

It seems to have stopped now and has developed a loud rattle instead.

check the state of the timing belt tensioner before driving it again. hopefully it isn't that, but better to check before it breaks!
