HELP WITH ENGINE CONVERSION PLEASE!!!

Right...
I currently have a 91plate scirocco EX – 1.8l 8v carb. well two actually :)
and am looking in to purchaseing a Corrado 2.0l 16V which i think is a 9A??????

-Am i correct in saying that it is possible for me to drop the corrado engine into my scirocco?
-Is there a guide avalible?
-Will i need any parts?

Sorry if these are newbie questions but we all have to start somewere!

Hi, im doing pretty much the same with my GT2, check the projects section. Although mine is an ACE coded engine from an audi, which is very similar to the 9a.
The engine will drop straight in, the clutch from the 8v and the gearbox will both fit.
You will need the engine mounts off your 8v though.
You will need to get the 16v alternator brackets and alternator if the engine does no have them already.
Water pump from the 8v will also bolt straight on if the 9a does not have one.
You'll need the ecu and wiring loom from the corrado.

The exhaust is the hardest part in my opinion, dubpower do one for a mk1 golf which fits (http://www.dubpower.co.uk/).
You will also need a fuel injection pump.

You may also find that the distributor fouls the brake fluid reservoir, i fixed this problem by using an ABF distributor cap (with the 9a you may need to get a whole new distribtor though as i think it has clips to hold the cap on where as the ABF/ACE have screws.)

Thats all i can think of atm. Hope this helps

Thank you for all that, makes it much clearer in my head,
Im planing on purchasing the whole corrado so will have the exhaust of that which is a full stainless scorpion exhaust, would that fit?
What sort of time scale should i be looking at? Itll be mostly evenings...
So if i were to get the corado i would have everything needed to compleate the conversion, except an exhaust...
How difficulyt is the wireing? Would the ecu be included?

The exhaust manifold from the corrado would not fit as the scirocco and corrado are built on different platforms. Believe it or not the mk2 scirocco is pretty much the same under the bonnet as a mk1 golf, both built on the A1 platform. The manifold i got from dubpower comes with a flex section that lets it hook up to my existing exhaust system.

If your buying the whole car then the ecu should come with it. I dont think the wiring would be that bad, im not sure about this part as im using Megasquirt as my ECU so there is some fun wiring involved with that.

As of a timescale... as you will have everything you need from the corrado then it shouldnt take as long as mine has, as long as you get then exhaust manifold sorted and ordered i reckon with working on it evenings and weekends you could get it done in 2-3 weeks maybe less.

dont give yourself time scales as you are bound to miss them with niggles and problems along the way especially with wiring. I would also consider swapping out your fuel lines as your carb ones will morethan likely a: not flow enough fuel and b: rusty.

As its carb you are going to need the fuel pump, intank lift pump, fuel accumulator, fuel filter. 3 extra wires run from the fuel pump/lift pump to your fuse box. live/earth for fuel pump and a live for your lift pump. Associated fuel hoses made up to fit it all of course.

Carb to injection is easy if you know but a ball ache as I found if you dont know jack lol

You bunch of complete ladies under garments. The 16v conversion CAN be done in a weekend.

Just put some effort into preparing.

where you located dude? Make me a cupper and i'll have it done in an afternoon :P

Last one i did took a day :nerner: :vcool:

As you said tho, its all about how much time you put into getting everything prepared - my first 16v conversion (KR) took me around 4 months to get everything ready to fit! From then it took me less than a week - including replacing everything to do with the standard brakes and respraying the engine bay :hugegrin:

Im in stamford, lincolnshire, so not that far away?
My dads a mechanic so that always helps...
I didnt get the corrado, but am currently looking for a 2.0l 16v from the golf gti.
Once i have the engine i guess ill go from there...
