Well, I've been about here for 4 months since buying my Cat D write off Rocco... heres a reminder as to how it was:

Image

The car belonged to a friend from work - who was so enthusiastic about the car, I couldn't see it go to scrap. So, I bought it off the insurers for £350.

The car has had:

New drivers wing and arch
New front valance
Bonnet repaired
Grille repaired
New fog light and bracket
New clear indicator
New bumper and support
New plate holders and pressed plates
Pro Respray of the repair - and the whole drivers side (to rid it of dings)
Removed 2 defunct alarm systems from it!
Started de-greasing the engine bay (lots more 2 do!)

I'm not yet done... and theres lots of engine bay detailing to do, a new sound system and electric aerial... but I cant hold back on the pics. I took these today and am very happy with my work. Oh, and the original owner cant let go and has invoked our 'gentlemans agreement' - and he gets to buy it back at my cost price. So.... here is what we've called... "Rocky V2.0"

A big thankyou to all who helped me with my various numpty posts on here this past while - and to those who sold me parts at a VERY fair price. The previous (and next!) owner has registered on here today - and I've encouraged him to stay here - so Rocky has a new and long lease of life.

Thanks again guys :beers:

Well, it time for a conclusion to this story, and a sign off.

This wee rascal threw me a few more curve balls before letting itself go home to DeeJayDready. I went to get it ready for MOT a few weeks back to find that 3 of the 4 springs were in fact snapped :ire: On investigation it would seem that someone in the cars past (at least 2 owners back I should add) had cut the springs  The front end was riding on the bump stops.

So, a set of -40mm GMax springs later and we're for MOT.

2 days before MOT, I get 2 tyres fitted to find that theres a few dry joints on the exhausts system. Oh well... lets fix that too! No big deal. Then on the way home the car conks out :diablo:

So, 2 days later - I brought the car for MOT. It conked out 3 times en route! My heart was in my throat - but it passed  Brakes all good - suspension tests all good - new headlights fine. Result.

Last week - what I thought was my final test run took place. I wanted to see if this new fuel filter had sorted the problem. I got to the top of the road before the throttle pedal disappeared to the floor :diablo: Seriously - what is this wee motor telling me! £6 and 3 days later - I have a new throttle bush in.

So the final final test run can now take place. The car drove brilliantly and pulled cleanly up the rev counter. It had indeed turned out (after much effort!) to be a dirty fuel filter. Lesson there - fuel filters that LOOK clean may not be. Take them off and tap them - the dirt is in the creases of the filter element.

So - Rocky V2.0 is now ready to go home. Its been a rocky road (sorrry for the poor pun ) and this past fortnight I've cursed up and down the driveway. BUT... now that its all come together, I have to say, Sciroccos have something special about them indeed. It draws more looks than any other car I've driven. They are indeed becoming scarce too - so hold onto your cars and keep them alive. "Save the Cat D" is my new catch phrase!

Some pics taken on the driveway after a final degreasing session and a wash n wax. Beside its V6 step brother, they both looked great IMO. I have to say a big thankyou to all who helped me on this 6 month project. Many of you sent me parts without expecting money for them. All my posts got quick replies. None of my numpty newbie questions were met with sarcasm. Tis a great place and I thank you :buddy:
