2L Exhaust manifold

Hi folks

Have looked around, but can't seem to find a definnative answer :dunno:

I am fitting a 2l bottom end from a Mk3 golf, which i understand is taller than the standard

Will the standard, or a GT2 fitment 4-1 exhaust manifold fit, or do i need to get hold of a specific one?

Thanks

Marcus

Hi Marcus,

It "may" fit... some folks that have done this conversion have reported a decent fit, others have had to get a spacer made to put in... the difference I believe is around 16mm to 20mm, so not a great deal.

I'm personally doing the same conversion (currently stripping down the block to refurb as needed) but am going down the route of 4-2-1 manifold.
Apparently TSR do a conversion specific manifold, but it's not cheap, in the region of £260 IIRC.

Post up your finidings though mate, so it helps others :D

4 branch i tried to fit to my 2E fouled the steering rack. don't know who made it though. standard 1.8 one was close, but did fit

Which 4-2-1 are you going for if you don't mind me asking?

my main aim is that i never have to touch a C clip thing again, but as this is my first real experience with major engine tinkering (most i've dont before was the head gasket), whatever fits best/easiest will be what i'm looking at first

A friend of a friend is custom making me one, 2" all the way through and based on the same design (layout wise) as the original/jetex except for the 4-2-1 bit up to the back box, but we're fitting a nonRocco spec backbox. (Golf Mk3 so I can have a squarish exit pipe :P)

I've used an old janspeed 4-2-1 on my 2 litre AGG block engine and have had no clearance problems at all .

I have a hot tuning one on my 2l and they are made for lhd so you will have a tight fit and it touches the steering gater so I took the gater off. Was a pain in the arse to fit, get the car up high and take off the inlet manifold and front anti roll bar to make it easer on yourself. I found having the back of the car higher than the front helped for getting the thing angled in place a bit better. Oh and soak your nuts the night before lol

Getting it in shouldn't be too much of an issue as I'm doing a full body rebuild, but thank you for the advice. When I get to mock it up, if there's clearance issues, I'll git it adapted at the time. :yup:

Got all the engine components, including hte oil pump sorted so that I can go distributorless ignition (MegaJolt as I'm running on Carbs)... just need to get the head ported and flowed (dropping that off monday) and get the inlet manifold made (on an 8v block :D)

Other than those challenges... it's all good :hehe:
